Back in the summer of 2001 Elmer Wilcox, Koko Koelsch, and Jack Martin were coping with the task of setting up the reunion banquet and dealing with the cost. Koko, who was working with the hotel, made the decision that the cost per person to attend the banquet would be thirty dollars ($30.00). This was based on twenty-seven dollars ($27.00) for the meal and use of the hotel banquet facilities. We all were concerned if three dollars ($3.00) per person would cover the price of beer, soda and snacks we planned to have. We "hem-hawed” about that |

for quite a while and as we came to a final decision. Elmer commented, “Crime 'n nitly guys, back in 1954 we would have set aside three dollars ($3.00) for the food and worried if the remaining twenty seven ($27.00) was enough to cover the cost of the beer and soda!” (^-^) It's amazing how your priorities change as you get older isn't it? |

Thanks to the efforts of Art "Koko” Koelsch, Elmer Wilcox, and Jack Martin, the VP23 Reunion of February 2002 in Pensacola, FL. became a reality and is now history. Through their perseverance and determination, they managed to locate over eighty past VP23 members of the 1952-1956 time frame. They in turn contacted every one of them and asked them to attend the reunion. This resulted in thirty-eight (38) guys, twenty six (26) wives, and one (1) significant other, attending the reunion. Several others planned to come but had to cancel due to illness or other pressing problems. Other individuals who were active in setting up our activities were Jerry Ristow, Eldon McDonald, Billy Rawl, David "Butch” Brillhart and Jack Malone. I also want to acknowledge that the wonderful success of this gathering should be credited to the attendees. If they had not attended there would have been no reunion. |
