NASSAU MONUMENT BEFORE & AFTER

OCTOBER 2003

MAY 2006

            Thanks to Ron Beaudet for the pictures and the idea of making this into a “Before & After” feature. Thanks also to Butch, Hope & her family, all other VP-23 alumni who had a hand in this, and most especially LCDR DeLong Bonner and his staff who, as we can see, did an absolutely fantastic job restoring this monument.

            For those of you who are so inclined, you may listen to and/or download the first verse of The Navy Hymn in MP3 format by clicking here. (Note: 633 KB WAV file). Here are the words, original on the left and aviation version on the right:

Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!

Lord, guard and guide the men who fly
Through the great spaces in the sky.
Be with them always in the air,
In darkening storms or sunlight fair;
Oh, hear us when we lift our prayer,
For those in peril in the air!
