| Hopefully you have had a chance to view some
of my work in my 'Snap
Shots' section to get an idea of what the
finished paintings look like. What I have tried
to do is produce original aviation art that is
affordable yet very personal at the same time. I
found the best way to make a painting as original
as possible is to let the customer have their say
as to which aircraft they want and also to
suggest a background on which to use for my
canvas. This is when I came up with the idea of
using Area Navigation charts as my background. I
found that this is the best way to capture both
that special airplane as well as the area that it
was flown or even where you live and really adds
that personal touch. I try to use the visual
impact of the chart to enhance the painting and
the image of the aircraft to get the overall
effect I want.
To give you a better feel for what I do, I
have included some actual questions that I most
often recieve from customers:
Q: "Isn't the navigation chart
too busy to use as a background?"
A: Not at all. I enhance the contrast of
the image so that no matter how busy the
background is, the main image always stands out
and balances the overall painting.
Q: " What medium do you
use?"
A: My work is first drawn with fine
black ink pen then painted with water paints.
Q: " How many can you do on one
chart and how many do you recommend per
chart?"
A: If you are familiar with these
charts, they vary in size. If I just do one
aircraft, I would make the image of the aircraft
larger than if I were doing multiple images.
However, I personally find that a collection of
about 3 to 5 aircraft on a large chart really
captures what I am trying to do which is produce
a painting that really pieces together a perfect
collage of your career, your favorite aircraft,
or one particular aircraft from a range of
different views. Also, It is more cost effective
to have more than one per chart. (Have a look at my
pricing at 'How much?' )
Q: "What if I do not have the
photograph of the airplane that I want?"
A: No problem. I will use my resources
to see what I can come up with, or call me direct
and we can discuss it further so I can get a good
feel for what you want. If you choose to send me
a photograph, however, please make sure
that the photograph you send was either taken by
you, or that you have copyright privileges from
the photographer.
Q: "Do you make, or have any
prints of your work?"
A: No I do not. All of my work is custom
done from orders only. I want to ensure that you
receive an original piece of art. Printing will
lose the personal touch that I try to achieve.
Q: "How long would it take to
complete a painting?"
A: From the time I receive all your
information it may take from 10 -12 days. Of
course due to the nature of my work it depends on
my current work load. I will however, let you
know when you place the order when you can expect
the completed painting.
Q: " Do you do military or
general aviation aircraft?"
A: Yes. Once you can provide enough
information so that I can get the painting as
accurate as possible, I can do about almost
anything.
Q: " Do you accept Visa or any
other credit cards?"
A: Unfortunately, No. I have not got
this area set up as yet. I am working on it and
will update this answer as soon as I have done
so. Method of payment is check or money order in
US$.
I hope I have answered most of
your questions. Should you have a question that
