We offer advice and information on living with Kerry blues and are happy to point out other resources. We highly recommend
anyone interested in sharing their lives and homes with a Kerry to go to the US Kerry Blue Terrier Club website, http://www.uskbtc.com,
and look up members in your area who will only be too happy to talk Kerry with you.
On that site are several articles
that help first-time owners build successful and lifetime relationships with their new Kerry; for those considering the breed,
other articles explain what it takes to live with an intelligent, active and sometimes too-willful breed.
Our first
Kerry came from USKBTC Rescue. We have since twice fostered Kerries for the Rescue group of the USKBTC club, placing them
in homes that we hope will be forever.
For puppy buyers, we offer support for the life of the dog, in addition
to ear setting as pups, lessons on regular coat, skin, ear, eye, and teeth care, and grooming.
We stay up-to-date
on developments in veterinary care, and avail ourselves of local specialists for routine care and testing from opthalmologists,
orthopedists, internists, and so on.
We use alternative veterinary care when necessary, including acupuncture, and
can refer owners to resources locally as well.
We have used multiple local trainers for our Kerries, for puppy kindergarten,
basic obedience, competitive obedience, and specific problems related to older Kerries, and are more than happy to refer owners
to these resources, as well as to other Kerry owners who partner with their dogs in Agility, Rally and other fun events.
We
organized and ran a Sheep Herding Clinic in November, 2006, the weekend before the AKC granted Kerries approval to participate
in Herding events. Eighteen Kerries showed true herding instinct that day; more events will be planned for our regional Kerry
community.
We also offer home visits as a service to other breeders who are considering placing a Kerry locally.
