What Is A Producer?
PRODUCER -- The person who carries ultimate responsibility for the
original shaping and final outcome of a film, although the distributor
may insist on certain editing rights which may allow such distributor
considerable discretion in changing the film once delivered to such
distributor. The producer generally finds and develops a film project,
hires the writer or writers, develops the script, hires the director and
actors, arranges for financing and oversees the production of the film.
For purposes of anti-trust law analysis, the producer or production
company is the manufacturer of a product (the film) and the distributor
is a wholesaler and the exhibitor is the retailer.
