Setting up your website template:

MS Frontpage Note:
You can edit the pages in Frontpage, however, do NOT edit the index.html in Frontpage, only edit the individual pages. Backup your files before you start.

Step 1:
EDIT COPYRIGHT:
Open the "copyright.js" file in Notepad or any text editor and change the "Your Name or Company" and "info@yourdomain.com" lines to match your information. This will change the lower page info on all pages. Use a text editor to edit any of the ".js" files.

Step 2:
EDIT CONTACT INFO:
Open the "phone.js" file in Notepad or any text editor and change the company name, address, phone number and e-mail address. This will change contact info on the contact page.

Step 3:
EDIT FLASH ANIMATED LOGO:
Open the "logo.txt" file and change the text that follows "logo=" to your company name and the text after "&slogan=" with your slogan. This will change the logo on all the pages. Be sure not to delete the "logo=" or the "&slogan=". If you don't want a slogan simply erase "First phrase here, welcome to the works of...". You can use spaces to adjust the logo location.

If you do not want to use the Flash logo: Open the "no_flash_header.js" file and change the "Your Company" line to match your name or company name. This will change the upper text logo on all pages. Then rename the "no_flash_header.js" to "header.js". If you wish to use a graphic logo, there are instructions later in this document.

Step 4:
EDIT THE CONTACT FORM:
If you are setup with an AllWebCo hosting account. Go to your control panel at "http://your-domain.com/cgi-bin/plusmail" and install the free script "Formail" then edit the contact page and replace "your-domain.com" with your domain.

If you are not set up with AllWebCo hosting or do not have "Formail" installed. You can either setup the contact form to use another contact script, install "Formail" on your server or you can remove the contact form from the pages between the comment tags.

If you wish to change the sizes of the form elements you can open the "coolstyle.css" in Notepad and change the ".shadeform" ".textarea" and ".dropdown" width numbers.

Step 5:
REPLACE THE PICTURES:
Because this template includes a slideshow, the best way to setup the pictures in the gallery and the slide show at the same time is not to actually edit the HTML pages and change the pictures on each individual page. The fastest way is to simply replace the pictures in the "gallery" directory with your own by overwriting the files that are in there now and using the same generic names.

Replace the 36 "gallery" pictures in the "gallery" directory with your own full sized pictures. Replace the 36 thumbnails with your own 150 x 100 thumbs. If you wish to use diffent sized thumbnails see "PICTURES" later in this document.

SIZE THE POP UP PICTURE VIEWER:
The size of the pop-up window when you click a gallery picture for a close up is set at 550 x 400. You can change the size by editing the pop-closeup.js in Notepad. Look for "var view_width = 550" and "var view_height = 400" and edit with your sizes. Make the height large enough so the close button is displayed. You can also turn on the pop-up scrollbars. Change "scrollbars=0" to "scrollbars=1".

Step 6:
EDIT PAGES:
Change the text on all pages to match your information. You can use Frontpage, Dreamweaver, Golive, any wysiwyg webpage program or a text editor like notepad. Take care not to delete any of the HTML tags that surround the text. If you need to, you can use Microsoft Word to edit this template, however, take care to back the files up first because Word somtimes changes page widths and that can unbalance your pages.

Step 7:
EDIT PAGE TITLES, DESCRIPTIONS AND KEYWORDS:
Open each of the pages and change the page titles (at the very top of the page) and also the description and the keywords to match your product or service. You can edit one page and copy and paste to the other pages. Be careful to only change what's inside the "" so you don't disturb the html code. Keywords are very important so your site will get a good listing at google or msn and other search engines.

Step 8:
UPLOAD:
Upload the pages on to your hosting company's server using ftp software like CuteFTP or Coffee Cup (free) or your control panel. Be sure to make a directory called picts on your server and put the pictures into that directory.

Options:

THE NOTES AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH GALLERY:
You may want to edit the "custom work" notes at the bottom of each gallery page. Open the "gallery-notes.js" and change the text inside. If you don't want any notes just delete the text that's displayed. Do not delete the actual file.

SETING UP THE SLIDESHOW PICTURES:
The slideshow is currently setup to display all 36 pictures in the gallery directory. If you would like to add or remove pictures from the slideshow, open the slideshow.htm in Notepad and look for the "EDIT THIS AREA" note. Copy and paste to add new pictures to the list, or delete lines to remove pictures. You can also set the AutoPlay speed. Look for "var rotate_delay = 3000".

SIZING THE SLIDESHOW:
The size of the pop-up slideshow window is set at 550 x 400 pixels. If you have large pictures, you can change the size by editing the pop-closeup.js in Notepad. Look for "var slideshow_width = 550" and "var slideshow_height = 400" and edit these numbers until the slideshow is a good size for your pictures. You can also turn on the slideshow pop-up scrollbars. Change "scrollbars=0" to "scrollbars=1".

USING A GRAPHIC LOGO:
You can replace the flash logo with a graphic. To do this, delete or rename the header.js, then rename the "graphic_logo_header.js" to "header.js". In the picts directory you will find a graphic called "logo.gif", open this graphic and edit it with your logo. The size should remain a maximum of 110 x 500 unless you edit the numbers in the new "header.js". It is recommended that you do not exceed 110 pixels in height.

FONTS:
You can change your font colors and sizes by editing the "coolstyle.css" with a text editor. You can find other font colors by clicking here. You can also change the font sizes in the "coolstyle.css" file. Change the "TABLE" px size to change the copy on all pages. Change the "subtitle" px size to change all the subtitle sizes.

CHANGING / ADDING BUTTONS:
You can change the names on the buttons like "About" or "Gallery 1" to other page names by editing the "menu.js". Only change the one instance of the name and not the name with the ".htm" after it. Whatever you change in the menu.js will change every page on the website. Keep the names short so they don't go outside the menu. You can even add more pages but copying one button in the menu.js and pasting it right below the next. There are notes in the "menu.js" for addng buttons. Be sure to back up your file before you edit it.

MOVING THE MENU ON THE PAGE:
You can change the location of the menu buttons on the page. Open the "coolstyle.css" and find this line: "#menu { LEFT: 100px; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 120px }" change the px numbers to move the menu to a different location.

PICTURES:
You can replace the pictures with your own. The gallery pictures are now 250 x 400 and the thumbnails are 150 x 100. You can use any size picture you want, however, the gallery pages will force the thumbs to be 150 x 100. The "main", "about", "links" and contact pages have their own pictures (75 x 400) which are named according to the page they're on. You will find all pictures in the "picts" directory. If you wish to use different sized thumbnail pictures in the gallery you will find some files named "UNSIZED gallery.htm". One for each gallery. The pages have undefined picture sizes. Rename or delete any gallery.htm and replace it with a "UNSIZED gallery.htm" and the thumbnails will appear on the page at whatever size the actual picture is.

ADDING PAGES:
You can add pages to your website by copying and pasting any one of the pages and renaming it to whatever you need. You can then add links from the other pages or even add the page to the menu by opening the menu.js and copying and pasting one of the buttons below another. It's best to copy the two lines of the "contact" button and paste it between the other buttons (see the note in the menu.js). Be sure to back up your files before you edit them.

THE JAVASCRIPT USED ON THIS TEMPLATE:
There are some javascripts used on this site. The "blockerror.js" makes it so your site will never get a javascript error message. The "frame.js" makes it so when you open one of the pages outside of a frame it automatically redirects to open the index.html. This does not cause any problems for search engines however it may cause problems with editing. If you need to open pages in a browser without redirecting just re-name the "frame.js" and then re-name it back when you are finished.

Re-Sizing and Moving The Main Frame:

All of the pages on this website appear inside of a framed area. It is currently defined at 600 pixels wide and 125 pixels from the left edge of the browser. If you wish to make the frame wider or taller, open the index.html and look for the "INLINE FRAME" area. You will see a height of 500 and a width of 600. Change the numbers to make the frame bigger or smaller. If you wish to move the frame left, right or up, down on the page, open the "coolstyle.css" and look for "#frame". Current numbers are at "LEFT: 125px" and "TOP: 190px". Changing these numbers will move the frame around on the pages.
