Home!

Home is where the Hartz is!

After the house and yard in the big city of Memphis got too small for all of our bulldogs, we started building a house in the country. Bob's vision The nearest village is Pocahontas, TN -- the nearest veterinarian is in Boliver, TN which is 26 miles away. Judy's mother lives very close so we can keep an eye on her. The house design is a compromise of sorts: I really wanted to build a Victorian three story house on the hill.
Bob's vision of Judy's idea Judy wanted a dog trot cabin down by the pond. I had no idea what a dog trot was so I imagined a three room tar paper shack... actually, a real dog trot has only two rooms and a breezeway between.

So there was a series of compromises of sorts. The house has a wrap-a-round porch without a dogtrot through the house; a cypress board and batten exterior instead of Victorian gingerbread; two stories (not one or three); instead of 500 or 4000 square feet it ended up 2000 square feet (not counting the porches); cherry flooring for the master bedroom and family room; knotty pine flooring everywhere else.
