    Who is Aunt Millie

Aunt Millie Bailey has raised 13 children . Fed and cared for (at one time or another) 27 grandkids , who so far have given her 6 great grandkids , and 1 great great grandkid . If that's not enough , 38 of those younguns are boys . They are all well, and doing good. Except Uncle Joe. We lost him in WW II .

Everyone acknowledges Aunt Millie as the best cook in the family . She has always taken great pride in what she puts on the table . Last Christmas after dinner, and present opening. I was having a conversation with Aunt Millie. She told me the best present I could ever give her was to help put together all her recipes in one book. She wanted each one of us to be able to cook all the good food she fixes for us. This turned out to be quite a job!

Aunt Millie was born in San Antonio in 1912 . In those days ladies (unless their famlies were very well off) rarely finished high school. They married and started their own famlies quite young . She was the exception . Her Mother worked at the Menger Hotel in the kitchen. Millie met , and I am sure charmed the chef at an early age . She started working at the grand old age of twelve . Cooking became a passion for her, and she learned everything he would teach her. In 1928 Aunt Millie met , and married Andrew J. Bailey . He was in town from Houston to sell his cattle , and stayed at the Menger . They left in November of the same year for Houstion. Aunt Millie has lived for the past 69 years on Baileys Pairie. Now part of Houston Texas.

Aunt Millie has meticulously gone over each of her recipes to make sure each one is up to date. This cook book was put together for family, and friends . I talked her into sharing it on the WWW . The recipes she has aquired from other people (even though she changed them to suit her tast) are credited to them.
