Wherein a young man & his dogs go for a walk in the woods, and then proceed to tell you all about it—at least that's the plan.

Not My Millennium

Strange days indeed. For example, I walked into the library with the clear intention of checking out a Patrick O'Brian novel—and came out with Dostoevsky's The Idiot. Probably, given my mood, I shouldn't read it. Probably, given my nature, I will.

Better Than Bad—But Not Quite Good

I'd like to say I was thrilled that the Federal Marriage Amendment, which would effectively outlaw same-sex marriage, stands no real chance of becoming law at this time. But I'm merely relieved, and only slightly; a two-to-one majority of Americans still opposes same-sex marriage, and I don't understand why.
"Marriage is hate. Marriage is a stain. Marriage is an evil thing. That's what we hear. People who stand for traditional marriage are haters, they're bashers, they're mean-spirited, they're intolerant. ... Well, we're not."

-Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA)
First of all, no one said that "marriage is hate," "a stain," or "an evil thing." I "stand for traditional marriage"—one of my dearest dreams is to have one of my own—but I'm not against non-traditional marriage. Why should I be? I've asked, over and over, exactly how non-traditional marriage would harm traditional marriage, and I still haven't received an answer.

The true answer is that it wouldn't hurt anyone or anything.

As for the assertion that opposing same-sex marriage isn't hate, bashing, mean-spiritedness or intolerance: if denying a basic right to millions isn't hate, what is?

Music In My Head

  • Willie Dixon — "Back Door Man"
  • Twizted — "Rock the Dead"
  • Me First and the Gimme Gimmes — "All My Lovin'"
  • Madonna — "Ray of Light" (Calderone club mix)
  • Tori Amos — "Raspberry Swirl"
  • Radiohead — "Fake Plastic Trees"
  • Cuco Valor — "El Brujo"
Happy Bastille Day! I think I'll start the day with some French Toast. Later I'll have French Fries, with Heinz ketchup, thank you very much.
