Misty Mountain Hop
Wherein a young man & his dogs go for a walk in the woods, and then proceed to tell you all about it—at least that's the plan.

Me, Version 2.0

Same old me, new look. Hope you like. For anyone who just adores the old look, you can still see it on my fitness file. For now.

I designed this one myself, using a little of my new college knowledge. I may change a few more things, namely I may get rid of the guestmap, and I may rethink some of my links—as soon as I get around to revisiting all of them (I'm talking about the comics and so forth, not any of my friends [obligatory smiley]).

The moon phase thingy is corny, I know, but if I didn't have it here, I'd have to look up the site via a bookmark every other day or so.

Maybe the Iraq Body Count has served its purpose, but as long as innocent Iraqi civilians continue to die by our hands, I'm leaving it up. I switched to a simpler/smaller version, though, after I realized tonight the larger one accounted for about a third of the entire page's data size.

This thing should load considerably faster now, but I'm one of the spoiled, lucky folks with broadband, so let me know what you think, especially if you use dialup.

The photo behind the title is part of a 180° panorama I shot earlier this year from Brasstown Bald in Georgia.

I may replace it with a different photo—after all, that's about as un-misty as the Southern Appalachian mountains ever get—but that'll have to wait until I get my camera back from Canon (again). The best thing I can say about my experience with the Canon Powershot A70 so far is that Canon's customer service people are very polite and efficient—but I've had to deal with them twice now. Last time, the camera worked fine when I got it back (and they did send it back reasonably quickly), but three months later it started malfunctioning again. I'll let you know how it goes this time.

With a little luck, I'll be posting more photos soon. I did take some shots with a one-use camera in the Black Mountains a few weeks ago, so I'll post some of those as soon as I get around to getting them developed....

I've enjoyed slacking off for the last week, but my little break will end soon. Next week, I begin my JobQuest 2004™. The good news is I get to buy new clothes; the bad news is—actually, that's good news, too!

Me, looking cheesy in sunglasses, black cap & gown, and a smug grin, as I stroll into graduation last Friday
And to think I worried they'd go for the obvious cliché

By the way, English is taught extensively in local schools—it's just not learned much.

Back in the Saddle

First, I need to do some housecleaning. I've removed my link to Hector Rottweiller, Jr.'s Web Log, one of the most intelligent web logs I've encountered. Curtiss has decided to stop blogging, at least for the time being.

Similarly, I've removed the link to San Francisco Liberal, who, rumor has it, is just too darned busy to blog.

Imagine.

I'm starting to feel sane again (más o menos), but I don't feel motivated to do much yet. Too many thunderstorms about to go hiking, for three days in a row now. I'm in a very mañana frame of mind, which I'll be glad to put behind me. I'm looking forward to doing that—tomorrow.

Music In My Head

  • Lush — "500 (Shake Baby Shake)"
  • Thelonius Monk — "Misterioso"
  • Django Reinhardt — "Blues For Ike"
Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.
