Airmail Options

Up

  • Click on Tools
  • Click on Options
  • Click on Settings
  • Under HAM
    • Enter your Callsign
    • Click after Offer FBB Binary Level 2 ("B2F")
  • Under Keyboard Mode
    • Auto-warp 72  (or whatever line width you like)
    • Click after Whole lines
  • Under Station Location
    • Enter your Lat. in degrees followed by minutes with decimals not seconds.  Latitude should be N for the USA.  Example 32 33.00'N
    • Enter your Lon. in degrees followed by minutes with decimals not seconds.  Longitude should be W for the USA.  Example 092 12.00'W
    •  Or ... Enter your Grid.  It may be calculated for you if you entered the correct Lat and Lon.
    • Check after Send QTH
  • Under Messages - the defaults will usually work well
    • Enter the message number to start.  The default is OK
    • Enter characters per line:  72 is OK
    • Check Show Header Panel
    • Check Show Local Time Zone if you use local time.
    • Check Close Replied-to-message
  • Leave Defer Incoming larger than: as 0 - unless you have a very good reason to limit message size.
  • Leave Reject incoming larger than: as 0 - unless you have a very good reason to limit message size.
  • Click Show Hints
  • Click Apply
  • Click OK

 

  • Click on Tools
  • Click on Options
  • Click on Connection
  • Under Modem type
    • Select your modem type.  Select Local Loop if you do not have a TNC
    • Select the Comm Port your TNC and Computer will communicate.  Be sure there are no conflicts with internal modems or other devices using the same Com Port.
    • Select the Baud Rate the TNC and computer will communicate.  Select the fastest your computer and TNC will function.  9600 works for many older computers and  TNCs.  38400 or 57600 works for newer computers and TNCs.
    • Check Show Link Messages
  • Click on Advanced Settings.  The default settings will usually work.
    • Check Reset modem before initializing
    • Check Restore Modem settings when done (depends upon version)
    • Check Set modem tones (recommended)
    • Check Send Morse ID on disconnect  20
    • TxDelay - 20 is usually OK
    • CSD - 25 is usually OK
    • Augobaud setting - generally No change is OK
    • Click Close
  • Under Audio Tones
    • Center Frequency: 1500
    • Click USB
    • Amplitudes only work with SCS.  140 and 170 works for my SCS and Kenwood rig
  • Under Radio Connection
    • Click None if you will not control the HF radio with Airmail
    • Click Direct via Com port: if you will control the radio with Airmail
    • Select the correct COM port to control the radio.  This is not the TNC to Computer Com Port connection and must be a separate Com Port
    • Select the Computer to Radio control Baud rate.  4800 works for the Kenwood IF-232C. 
    • VFO: - A is OK
    • Dial offset is OO
    • Narrow Filter - leave unchecked if you plan to use Pactor III or leave unchecked anyway
    • Check Lock radio if you want the radio knob to not control the radio.  Uncheck it and Airmail will allow you to tune the dial after changing frequencies and band
  • Click Apply
  • Click OK

 

  • Close Airmail

 

  • Restart the computer especially if you have made any Com Port changes to be sure all the Com Port connections will work with the new settings.
