What is the money back guarantee?: We ensure your satisfaction! When you commission a Brush & Canvas  portrait, if you are not satisfied with the completed work ... return it ... and we will cheerfully refund the price of the artwork!

Can I send a photo?: Yes. Mr. Thomas can work from a photo (s) you send, as long as it meets the following criteria: Clear, Face (s) greater than one square inch. Your photos will be returned with your completed artwork.

Can we do a live sitting?: Yes. Definitely within 50 miles of Raleigh, NC. Elsewhere, inquire.

Do you have references?: Contact us for a client list.

Where can I see portraits in person? Contact us. You can setup a portfolio review with Mr. Thomas or we can refer you to portraits in public spaces.

Where can I see Other Artworks in person?: Check our calendar for events attended by Mr. Thomas. You can also setup a portfolio review with Mr. Thomas.

What decisions do I need to make when getting a portrait?: You already know what the subject( s) of the portrait will be. You will need to decide whether you want an oil painting (color) or a drawing (black & white). You will need to decide the size artwork. You will need to decide if you want to provide photos or do a live sitting. Mr. Thomas will be able to provide you with multiple options to help you decide.

What is the Sitting Portrait process?: You and Mr. Thomas will make an appointment for your sitting. Mr. Thomas will arrive prepared to complete a preliminary version of your portrait. At the end of the sitting, Mr. Thomas will allow you to view and comment on your work in progress. He will then take it back to his studio in order to complete your work of art and notify you when it is done.

What is the Photo Portrait process?: You and Mr. Thomas will determine how he will receive the photos. Mr. Thomas will review the photos and determine if they are acceptable for him to create your portrait. He will then complete your portrait and notify you when it is done. Your photos will be returned with your artwork.

Gift Certificates?: Don't have a picture? Gift Certificates are available from Brush & Canvas for the price of the work desired. They have a one-year expiration

What are the minimum portrait sizes?

PORTRAIT PAINTINGS - Oil on canvas 20"x24" (standard & smallest size)

  • 1 to 2  people, head & shoulder, plain background
  • Wedding portraits: call for information.
  • PORTRAIT DRAWINGS - Pencil/graphite; Standard sizes 11X14, 16x20 & 18x24

  • 1 to 2 people, head & shoulder, plain background
  • Is there a deposit?: Yes. 50% of the total.

    How much time will it take?: Typically 3 to 5 weeks from the START of a standard size oil portrait and 2 weeks from the START of a standard size drawing. If there are special time constraints, as likely for a gift, please advise Mr. Thomas when making your appointment.

    How many people can I put in a portrait?: As many as you want. HOWEVER, the more people in a portrait, the bigger the size and the greater the expense.

    Payment Method? : Cash, Check, or we can invoice you through PayPal where you can use your Visa or MasterCard.

    Do you frame your work? We recommend framecrafters for framing all of your original work of art.
