Longwood performers' sites

William Beeman, who maintains his web page through Classical Singer, has joined Longwood for nearly a dozen roles in the course of his international career, including the role of Leporello in Don Giovanni in 1999. He performed the role of Sarastro in our Fall 2002 production of The Magic Flute.

Jeffrey Brody currently serves as Music Director of Longwood Opera. Read an interview with Jeffrey at the Boston Singers Resource web site.

J. Scott Brumit, General Director/Stage Director of Longwood Opera, performed the role of Olin Blitch in Longwood's 2003 production of Carlyle Floyd's Susanna. Read an interview with Scotty at the Boston Singers Resource web site.

Marion Leeds Carroll performed small roles in small companies and large roles in totally invisible companies in NYC, before moving to Massachusetts, where she's mostly been directing: Gilbert and Sullivan for various companies, opera workshops, and recently, Shakespeare for the MIT Community Players. (Check out the outrageously flattering interview at Boston Singers' Resource.) She has performed in and organized Summer Concerts for Longwood, and played "Mum" in Longwood's June 2002 Albert Herring. She rates a spot on this page because - hey! - I'm the webmistress here! My fall 2004 project: organizing a second benefit concert for the Boston Cure Project for Multiple Sclerosis. (Want to help out with the third, next year? - let me know! bostoncure at leedscarroll.com)

Evan Denmark, tenor, made his Longwood Opera debut in the fall of 2004 as Rodolfo in La Boheme and is grateful to Scott and Jeffrey for the opportunity to be part of a warm company with such a long and storied history. Returning to singing after a long hiatus, he is quickly establishing himself as a performer in demand for his rich vocal tone, musicianship and elegant stage presentation. He has appeared with Opera Providence, Longwood Opera, Lowell Opera, Heartwood Regional Theatre and New England Light Opera. Roles sung include Rodolfo (La Boheme), Sam (Susannah), Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), Beppe (Pagliacci), Tom Rakewell (The Rake s Progress) and Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni). He was a finalist in the New Jersey Performing Artists 2004 Vocal Competition and a 3rd place winner in the 1st Annual Classical Singer Vocal Competition. Evan currently resides in the Boston area and studies with renowned soprano Maria Spacagna.

Craig Hanson is heard widely in recital, oratorio, musical theater, opera and contemporary music programs and has performed regularly throughout New England. His roles with Longwood have included David in the world premiere of Jeffrey Brody's The Measure of Love and the title role in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring. In the spring of 2003 he performed the role of Little Bat in Carlyle Floyd's Susannah

Robert McNamara has been noted for his "exceptional comic and vocal gift" in performances of the title role of Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, Rossini's The Barber of Seville as Almaviva, Mozart's Don Giovanni as Don Ottavio, Puccini's Gianni Schicchi as Rinuccio, H.M.S. Pinafore as Ralph Rackstraw, and Marco in The Gondoliers, among other roles. He is equally at home on the concert stage, recently singing performances of Bach's Matthäus-Passion and Magnificat as tenor soloist. Robert was Tamino in our Fall 2002 production of The Magic Flute, and performed the title role in the fall 2003 Tales of Hoffmann.

Perri Montané performed her first Cherubino and Rosina with Longwood Opera (as Perri Wagner). She thanks Scott Brumit for the opportunity and for providing such a wonderful, professional experience. Since then, her other roles have included the title role in Carmen, Tisbe in La Cenerentola, Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare, Phoebe in The Yeoman of the Guard, and Maddalena in Rigoletto. A district winner in the Met competition, she has toured with Lyric Opera of Chicago and performed with Opera Roanoke, Tacoma Opera, Hudson Opera Theatre, Atlanta Lyric Theatre, Capital City Opera, and Cartersville Opera.

Shanel K. Nand was selected recently to participate in Placido Domingo's Operalia World Opera Contest in Paris, France. With Longwood Opera, she has performed the roles of Lucy in The Telephone, Barbarina in The Marriage of Figaro, Gretel in Hansel & Gretel, Pamina in our Fall 2002 production of The Magic Flute, and created the role of Ann in Longwood Opera's 2001 premiere of Jeffrey Brody's opera, The Measure of Love. She won a rave in Boston Herald.com's review of that production, and is on her way to further successes, both with Longwood and internationally. She has already won critical acclaim for the title role in our spring 2003 production, Susannah .

Vanessa Schukis has performed Mistress Page in The Merry Wives of Windsor, Mrs. McLean in Susannah, and for years has dazzled people during Summer Concerts with her rendition of "Flaming Agnes" from the musical I Do I Do!

Jean-Pierre Trevisani sang Rodolfo in Longwood's 1994 production of La Boheme. He went on to win the National Metropolitan Opera Auditions, was hired to sing Rodolfo again in Europe and has been at the Paris Opera ever since. He thanks Longwood for helping him get there.

Paul Turner studied acting privately and at Manhattan's High School of Performing Arts. Mr. Turner made his operatic debut in 1999 in the role of Ruiz, in Verdi's Il Trovatore with Boston Bel Canto Opera (BBCO). In December 2001, Mr. Turner sang Eisenstein in a German-language production of Strauss' Die Fledermaus, presented by New York Metro Vocal Arts Ensemble. In November 2002 he sang Monostatos in Longwood's production of Mozart's The Magic Flute. In May 2003, Mr. Turner sang Gastone in a Raylynmor Opera production of Verdi s La Traviata. Also in 2003, three of Mr. Turner s poems were accepted by several publications, including the Meridian Anthology of Contemporary Poetry and Parnassus Literary Journal.

Antony Zwerdling has sung with opera companies across the country, including Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Boston, Lake George Opera, Ash Lawn Opera, Salisbury Lyric Opera, Longwood Opera, S.F. Pocket Opera, and Berkeley Opera. His Longwood roles have included Escamillo in Carmen and Sid in Albert Herring. He appeared this past season as Dapertutto in Longwood's Tales of Hoffmann
