Welcome to the Cat's Page
After owning their own full website, the cats are a little cranky now that they've been relegated to a simple page on the new and improved Jones Family site. However, for those of you who didn't get enough of them before, here's a recap of their interesting personalities.
Abby
Abby was rescued by Brooks in Savannah from the local veternarian, who kept her around as an "office kitty" because he couldn't bear the idea of taking her to the pound. She had recently had a litter of kittens, who all found homes (thanks to the help of the vet). Abby even took a couple of orphaned kitties and raised them alongside her own babies. Of course the vet spayed her, so her true mothering days are over, but you can't tell her that. She tries to groom everyone in the family (and visitors) except Josie, who she despises.
Abby has been described as everything from "cute and sweet" to "the root of all evil." For such an adorably cute fuzzy beast, she emits a surprisingly foul odor from her mouth, which earns her the more common nickname of "Stinky." Kids absolutely love Abby and will sometimes (depending on their ages) chase her around the house. As she's gotten older, her tolerance for this has waned, so she usually hides. Abby loves to follow Brooks around the house while she's doing chores, cooing and bleating as she jumps from surface to surface. She sleeps with Steven almost every night, and watches TV with him in the mornings before school.
The top of the PC in the office is a favorite perch for Abby, even though she's not supposed to sleep there. She can sometimes be found sleeping with her face buried in front of her, which causes the humans to speculate about lack of air flow to her small brain. Of all three cats, she is the most frequent talker, and will talk back if you speak to her.
Roscoe
Roscoe has been with Brooks and Steve since his kitten days. He was the roundest and cutest kitten in the litter at five weeks old. He is quite lanky now (seven years later), but it's hard to tell because he is somewhat plump (as Brooks calls it) or fat (as everyone else calls it). He can't really help it though, he takes medicine which seems to increase his appetite (and his willingness to eat the other cat's food).
Roscoe has an incredibly sweet nature and loves to cuddle the people he knows and loves best. He is relatively easygoing here at home and is not as bothered by the dog as the other cats, although when harassed he has been known to retaliate with a swift slap to the muzzle, claws extended. For some reason we don't understand, Roscoe absolutely hates the vet and has been known to refuse to allow any of the veternarian staff to handle him--Brooks has to go with him every time, even if it's just for a routine examination. The vet in Savannah used to have to put on the heavy gloves to pick him up--their nickname for him was "the devil."
The couches and the beds are all favorite hangouts of Roscoe, even if the dog comes in and tries to share the same space. He loves to drink water from the floor of the shower--we call it his "rain room." Roscoe will cry to express something that he wants--he rarely speaks otherwise but will snort and wheeze from time to time. His nickname of "Snoid" is so common that "Roscoe" is almost never used.
Osiris
Osiris (pronounced oh-sy-riss) was given to Steve by his best friend Jack and has been a part of Steve's family almost as long as Steven. Osiris likes to roam and thinks of the entire neighborhood as his personal property. He is a skilled hunter and has brought us many, many gifts over the years, including countless varieties of birds and rodentia, some dead and some only wounded.
For such a beautiful and regal cat, Osiris is remarkably moody and cranky. He will sometimes swipe at others with his claws, especially if he is not getting the kind of treatment he feels he deserves. He has never gotten used to the idea of sharing a house with other pets and remains the outcast because he sprays indoors. As a result, he is only allowed in the basement (when it rains or is cold outside) and the yard/neighborhood (any other time). Osiris is also very fussy about the litter box--if it isn't just exactly to his liking (we're not sure what his criteria is) he will use the floor directly in front of the box instead.
At times Osiris can be very affectionate and loving. He loves to have human company outside and is truly in his element if he has someone to share the hammock with. He is very talkative and his voice ranges from little musical-like notes when pleased to a flat-out screech if he's hungry, wet or otherwise uncomfortable.
