PARTICIPANTS ENJOY GIVING EXCELLENT SPEECHES:
Feeling assured and relaxed they speak naturally, with dynamism, and make a strong and lasting impression. This may seem too good to be true but it can definitely be accomplished
PRACTICALLY
EVERYONE ----INCLUDING MOST ACTORS---- HAS STAGE FRIGHT Stage
fright or a fear of speaking in public is universal. Amazing as this may
seem, most actors experience it. The greater the actor the greater the
stage fright. In his biography, the renowned English actor, Laurence Olivier,
tells of his enormous fear of performing in public.
BUT ACTORS
LEARN TO USE IT TO TREMENDOUS ADVANTAGE Instead of being hindered by it,
actors learn basic principles that allow them to transform this fear into
potent energy, which enables them to perform dynamically.
AND SO CAN OTHERS Seasoned Broadway actors employ these basic principles in the training. As participants learn to apply them they too come to enjoy and excel in public speaking.
PARTICIPANTS DISCOVER HOW TO:
DIFFERENTIATE
BETWEEN NERVOUSNESS AND TENSION They find that nervousness is helpful,
but tension is not. It is nervousness that makes them jump out of the way
of a speeding car. Nervousness = alertness. Tension keeps them glued to
the spot. Tension = paralysis.
RID THEMSELVES
OF PARALYZING TENSION Through learning how to prepare mentally before making
a speech; and through physical relaxation exercises. There are several;
some long (taking twenty minutes) some short (taking five minutes). The
latter are particularly helpful as one goes about one’s daily rounds.
USE THEIR
HELPFUL NERVES TO FULL ADVANTAGE They are built into the system for excellent
and beneficial reasons. Participants discover how to let their nerves help
them.
CONFRONT
AND MAKE FRIENDS WITH THEIR FEAR They discover that it is their best friend.
INCREASE
THEIR SELF AWARENESS IN POSITIVE WAYS For instance, they find that it is
always best to face their fear- MOST OF ALL MID-SPEECH!-and never to turn
their back on it
BECOME EXPRESSIVE
AND EXCITING PRESENTERS Through practicing some of the same exercises of
the imagination actors use in playing roles.
GAIN MASTERY
OF THEMSELVES- THEREFORE OF THEIR AUDIENCE . They
have ample time to practice making speeches before a group of encouraging
people
