My 1rst Day
My 36 B-day

My Mom was exactly 39 weeks pregnant when she delivered me.  I scared my parents a little because when I started my labor, mommy started getting contractions continuously - not every 15 minutes like they told us in our Kaiser pre-labor classes.  Mommy woke up daddy at 11pm and told him that her tummy was feeling crampy.  Daddy didn't tell mommy, but he was worried that something was very wrong.  Mommy called the advice nurse and she told us to come in; so we hopped into the car and drove to Kaiser Walnut Creek.  It was the longest 30 minute drive ever, but we finally got there.  Immediately we got checked into a Labor and Delivery room.

We went through a couple of RN's, midwives, and MD's as it took 13 hours before I finally came out.  Everyone was very nice except for the nurse anesthetist.  She didn't want to explain very much about the options involved in the epidural.  Later on my daddy told me he wanted to punch her.

Mommy did much better after she got the epidural at 3 am and was finally able to get some sleep.  Before that she pretty much lied on her back and moaned.  She only seemed half awake.  Labor after that was fairly uneventful until mommy got fully dilated.  My heart started slowing down with mommy's contraction.  Next thing you know at 1pm there were 12 people standing around the room staring at my mom and the monitors.  There were Ob/gyn doctors, Pediatric doctors, midwives, and a ton of RN's.  They started rolling in carts with all kinds of strange looking medical equipment.

My heart must have been slowing down a lot because the next thing that happened was the Ob/Gyn MD told my dad that he wanted to deliver me now!!!  Either with a vacuum or by C-section.  Both mommy and daddy looked shocked.

Next thing you know I had this suction cap attached to my head.I felt this pulling, but I couldn't quite get out on the first try.  But the second time he pulled really hard and out I popped.  Daddy later told me the first thing that he noticed (other than that I was a boy!) was how loud I screamed.  Wouldn't you scream too if you got pulled out of a nice warm body into a cold hospital room?

The mean nurse then took me away from mommy.  I got an icky, cold bath and then was put on a scale.    Mommy told daddy to watch them real close; so nobody would try to steal me or switch me for someone else.  Mommies are real protective aren't they?  Finally, they gave me back to mommy and I got to try eating.  I was excited.  I did pretty well and got my first taste of warm milk.  Yum, yum.

I hung out in the hospital overnight and got to touch daddy for the first time.    We left for home the next day.  What an exciting couple of days!  My parents say that life hasn't been the same since.
