This is my Porsche 928 page;

The Shark is a 1978 (yup same year as my MG) Porsche 928. She is black on black and is pretty much in stock trim as it left the factory with a 5-speed manual. For those not in the know the 928 is a front engine rear wheel drive setup utilizing a 4.5L V8 that according to the spec sheets puts out about 220HP & 250ftlbs of torque. Not to say those numbers are wrong but I suspect they might be undervalued because according to those same specs the 928 supposedly had a 0-60 time of about 7 seconds. I’ve tested that and my shark is much faster than that.

Also not known is that the 928 was tagged to be Porsches’ flagship and in many cases can and did outperform it’s sibling the 911. The sharks have a 50/50 weight distribution front to rear utilizing a rear transaxle not unlike modern Corvettes employ today. But sadly like the 924, 944 and 968s they never where coveted by the bulk of Porsche loyalists because it wasn’t in their eyes a true Porsche. Myself & fellow 928 owners laugh at this as we know better.

Anyway mechanically the black shark is in pretty good condition. The Previous owner kept maintenance & service records for the car for his 14+ years of ownership. According to those records the timing belt & clutch where both replaced recently. With the belt being checked a few months before the owner sold it to me. Car also passed smog test with flying colors.

Cosmetically she needs some work. But there isn’t any rust or body damage other than the normal paint chips & a couple minor door ding dimples about the size of a quarter. There is however two minor scuffs one on the rear bumper and the other on the driver’s side at the lower front finder by the spoiler that is hardly noticeable.

Electricals:

Update 06/01/07 I got the AC working and have replaced and have installed a new Alpine sound system. I have re-worked the instrument cluster and have all the dash lighting working fine.

Other than the minor things I plan on giving the Shark the same treatment I gave my 78B and will make this a truly great car.

Anyway I don’t plan on doing a lot to the Shark in the way of performance enhancement as it already is pretty amazing already. Mostly plan on cleaning it up and keeping it original.

STAY TUNED!
MUCH MORE TO COME!
