Primary nutrition has benefited my whole family. Since starting Food First in February, I’ve lost 15 pounds and don’t crave sweets anymore. My husband has lost 30, and he no longer has pains in his knees. One thing that is really great is that he used to be a heavy snorer at night, but no longer!

I had been studying health for over 30 years when I first heard about the Food First program. Several of my friends who had been very healthy eaters of whole foods like I was decided to try the Food First program to see how it would work for them. After completing their Food First program, they reported that their skin and muscle tone had improved and that they felt great.

I still felt skeptical, but decided to try it to see if it would do anything for me. I really didn't think it would improve my health at all because I ate a lot of whole foods anyway. Before Food First, I ate about 8-10 whole raw foods per day in my diet. Of course afterwards, that skyrocketed to around 30 different whole raw foods per day.

In the first 10 days of the Food First program, it actually shocked me when I saw how much energy I had and how my moods had greatly improved. I will soon be 92. My son introduced Pulse to me and I decided to do a 10-day program. I had enough energy and did not feel deprived. I lost 12 pounds at the end of the program.

Before I began my Food First program, I weighed 220 pounds and I am 5' 3 ½". Since starting the program 2 weeks ago, I've lost 24 pounds. I've lost 7 inches on my hips, 4 from my bust and 5 from the waist.

I'm not a good cook, so if I can eat something out of a can, it's perfect for me. I take Pulse to work with me and make it my breakfast and bunch—it’s exactly what I needed. Before I started the program, I ate a few raw, whole foods every day, because I had salad almost every day for lunch. But, I didn't eat breakfast. I probably wasn't eating enough, so my body would store what I did eat. I've always been a big water drinker, but I often drank Coke.

When I first tried Brain Garden, and went on the Food First 10-day program, the instructions on the Probiotic said to take on an empty stomach. I was determined to follow the program to perfection to either prove if it did or did not give the wonderful results I’d been hearing about.

I loved the Pulse from the beginning, and snacked all day long, so my stomach was only empty in the morning when I first woke up, and just before I went to bed at night. So, that’s when I took the Probiotic. My results were wonderful! I lost the weight I needed to, and most surprising of all to me, I lost more than an inch off my waist. I believe that this was greatly helped by the Probiotic, as my good friend went on the program at the same time I did, and even though she had a bit more weight to lose than I did, had much less dramatic results than I did. The only difference was I took the Probiotic and she couldn't stand taking it.

Now, I recommend to everyone that they need to take the Probiotic any way they can. Several friends have had success taking it with a small amount of yogurt, it isn't harmful to the probiotic from what I can see, and it helps the dry texture and strong “alfalfa” flavor that are hard for some to overcome. One other benefit that I found by taking the Probiotic at night was that it helped settle an upset stomach and it always stopped my late-night hunger and cravings. I met a woman at work one night munching on food out of a can. So of course I began to ask questions and I found I was interested in this product. She told me very little about Pulse and she said she would get back with me about the man that sells it at her church.

We met a few days later and off I went to work with my box in my car. I began to read that night and decided I would start the next day. I didn't know if this was for real and of course I have tried EVERYTHING out there and was currently doing an eating plan from a diet center. I started on Food First at the end of April. My son-in-law was telling me about Pulse and the weight he lost. When he was telling me about it, I was thinking, “Yeah, yeah, just another diet, I am sick to death of trying to lose weight.” My son-in-law has a gym and works out all the time! "I have a lot of energy and I feel great all the time."

I love the Pulse! I did the Food First program and found all the foods to be delicious. I am 56, have always had a lot of energy and I'm active, mostly with my horses. I usually do not have a weight problem, but try to eat healthy foods and drink lots of water. I am convinced: we are what we eat and drink!

I have noticed the older I get, the harder it is to get off the extra 5 to 10 pounds I gain during the winter months. I had been craving more sweets and chocolate the last 6 to 8 months, so I was looking for a food that would help with my diet. I've always been pretty conscious about what I ate and before the Food First program I was typically eating between three and four different raw, whole foods every day. Now, through a few simple, daily habits, I've increased that ratio to at least 24, plus raw, whole foods; and that may be a little conservative!

As a result of my increased ratios, I lost 7 pounds during the 10 days, and only wanted to loose 5 to 10 pounds! It's now the end of May and I have not gained any of it back. It is so convenient to grab a can of Pulse and eat breakfast on the way to work! I'm not really even "obsessing" about my diet, I just replace breakfast or lunch with a can of Pulse a few times a week and continue to snack on it throughout the day.

I have been on the Food for Life program for three months now, and I still don't have my craving for sweets any more, and I don't crave chocolate, either, which is a first for me! I also went from 8-10 cups of coffee a day down to 1 or 2 cups. I always try to have 12 to 16 glasses of water a day. I am sure my body appreciates the nutrition it is getting from Pulse! I have a lot of energy and I am healthy and feel great all the time.

My health issues began with emotional problems when I began having children. In 1982 after the birth of my first son I put on 20 pounds. The doctor said it was due to my diet, so he put me on a strict diet that would not compromise my hypoglycemia. Guess what: it did not work.

When my daughter was born, the same thing occurred—I added more weight. I was experiencing reduced energy levels and was often fatigued. So the story went for the next six children. With each one I developed a new health condition.

I had my gallbladder removed, developed irritable bowel syndrome, acid reflux, and what the doctor and I thought was female troubles because I was in so much pain. I began to have severe chest pains. I was tested for heart attack and stroke. It was only stress.

Finally, I had a hysterectomy, which eased my symptoms for a few months. My family moved to Kansas, and once there, my health continued to deteriorate. The low point was January of 2002, when I was diagnosed with appendicitis. Once I was in surgery, it turned out to be a hernia, so they fixed that and then removed my appendix anyway.

I was sent home to recover and go back to work. By the end of the week, the pain in my stomach was so bad that I had to go back into the hospital in the middle of the night. I was scared because I was in a new state, my children were being left at home, and I thought I was going to die.

In the hospital, the surgeon made a huge mistake. During one week in the hospital, I gained 25 pounds. The nurse alerted the doctor who did nothing. I was losing the ability to breathe. I could not catch my breath. A different doctor on call checked on me and put out the call that I was not going to make it. He said I was in congestive heart failure and the next 36 hours would be crucial.

My life flashed before my eyes. What will my children and husband do? I called my husband and could not even tell him because I could not talk because I could barely breathe. The nurse and doctor informed him of what was going on. I received Last Rites and visited with my children that night.

By the grace of God, I made it through the night and was taken off all food. All I could have was an IV. Needless to say, it took about a week to recover from that and they sent me home thinking I was well. That day I went home, I was back in the hospital, and went back into the hospital with more severe pains in my stomach.

The doctors found that I had Crohn’s disease. This is one step worse than diverticulitis. I had a pool of infection in my colon the size of two softballs and pus pockets throughout my small intestine. I was started on a water diet and hooked up to a nutritious IV. They also put a tube in to drain the infection. It took another seven weeks before I was released from the hospital. I did not know what I was going to do.

I knew I had to eat better. I was familiar with whole foods and supplements and what they can do for you. I didn’t know how I could afford to eat that way. That is when Matt Haag approached my husband at work and suggested that he and his wife Marilyn talk with us about Dynamic Plus and Pulse. We agreed because we couldn’t be out anything.

Within the first few minutes, we knew this was the answer. This was before the Food First program, but we signed up for an autoship and began our life with the Brain Garden. At this time I was on medication for bipolar disorder, under active thyroid, hormones, and Crohn’s. In all, I was taking seven medications at a cost of $400 a month, which was my share after the insurance paid.


I ate the Pulse and could only take ½ teaspoon of Dynamic Plus in a smoothie three times a day. After about a month, I could take a full teaspoon three times a day. I took Pulse and fruit to work for lunch; I teach special-needs children. I was soon able to take the Dynamic Plus in water. I also began to use the oils to help quicken my recovery of Crohn’s.

Here I am a year later, finished with all but my thyroid medication (I hope to be done with that one soon, too). I have almost conquered my Crohn’s with only occasional, mild pain. I have most of my energy back, my mental clarity is much better and I sleep better at night. My family says they like having mom around. This means a lot considering they all agree that I wasn’t much of a wife or mother before. THANK YOU Brain Garden for giving me my life back!

I am now beginning to lose weight and my color is back. I am also having my children begin the program one at a time. Josh, my fourth child, suffers from ADHD. He is improving regularly. He is now able to concentrate in school and is getting good grades. Better yet, his self esteem is rising and his attitude is becoming more positive. What a Change!

My tenth grader is so excited. He can’t wait for the Pulse Bars so he can easily take them with him for game day when he cannot eat. He looks forward to eating them before, during, and after the games.

My husband just finished the Food First program and has lost ten pounds! He is feeling better all round. I noticed he is not smoking as much. He doesn’t crave cigarettes like he used to. He is less agitated and is more satisfied at meals.

About 10 years ago my poor nutritional habits and laziness started catching up with me. It came down to the simple fact that I wasn't taking care of my body. But I wouldn't listen to what my body was telling me. I ate like a king, without any care for what I was eating or how much I ate. I simply enjoyed eating.

In 1993, I encountered a severe case of diverticulitis, was hospitalized, and had 11 inches of my colon removed. After the surgery the doctor said it was the worse case he had seen in a 40-year-old. He also gave me the false hope that the chances of any recurrence of the diverticulitis were about 2 percent and that I should be able to eat what I want. He told me that I shouldn’t need to continue with my daily ritual of Metamucil. I was glad for this council and felt that I was on the road to recovery and could continue down the road with the same eating and exercise habits to which I was accustomed.

In about 3 years, the diverticulitis returned. The deterioration of my body continued to get worse. I drank about 4 cups of coffee a day and was suffering from acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), spastic colon and severe constipation. On Feb 14, 2001, I visited my doctor because I felt my blood pressure medication was not working right and felt I needed it adjusted. Instead, after taking some blood samples, the doctor determined I was a Type II diabetic. At the time I was dealing with a lot of work-related stress and my weight was at its peak of 234. My blood sugar that day was 413; the doctor nearly put me in the hospital.

I began to get serious and started losing weight through a strict diabetic diet. I did well. In fact, in 4 months I was down 30 pounds. I took up biking as an exercise. I even entered the MS 150 bike tour in September 2001. After that event, however, I fell off the wagon. I quit exercising and the weight came back on. Within 6 months, I was within 5 pounds of where I had started.

I was depressed and the doctor was prescribing more and more medicines. I was taking pills for high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, anti-depressants, and I was using Metamucil again. I felt like a 70-year-old, needing 10 minutes to separate and organize my pills in a pillbox. I routinely took a nap during the day and I had very little energy.

In September 2002 the cardiologist recommended that I have a stress test and told me that I had what he thought looked like a blood clot in the left ventricle of my heart. That scared the heck out of me! He added to my pill regimen a “twice a day” dose of coumadin, a daily baby aspirin, and additional blood pressure meds.

After having chest pains (which turned out to be a false alarm caused by acid reflux) the doctor ordered a heart catheterization. It fortunately revealed no blockage, only some minor buildup of calcification in my major arteries. The threat of the clot was still there, but after a month, the doctor took me off the coumadin and told me that maybe it wasn't a clot after all. My cholesterol at the time was 211; triglycerides were 244, LDLs 125, HDLs 37. He diagnosed my chest pains as acid reflux and prescribed Prilosec.

That month, I met Carol Klingsmith at a Weight Watchers event. Carol was a distributor for Brain Garden, and I began quizzing her about the Pulse that she let me sample. After a week of going back and forth by e-mail, I signed up for and tried Food First.

It was a struggle to stick to the Pulse-only diet. I felt like I was a masochist, torturing myself into something I HAD to do because I had neglected my body for so long, and I forced myself to sticking to it. After about the fifth day though, I began to feel really good. My IBS and stress to my colon settled down, no more constipation or spastic colon, and no more acid reflux. With the Dynamic Plus I noticed more energy; I didn't require an afternoon nap after coming home from work. I wasn't hungry all the time. After 10 days, I had lost 10 pounds.

I have since done two other Food First programs. After the second I had lost another ten pounds. And with the third, I lost an additional five for a total of 30 pounds since starting. In the middle of the third program, I had more blood work done. My total cholesterol was 171, HDLs were 38 and LDLs were 117 and Triglycerides dropped to 78!

I am now off ALL my medications now and feel great! I continue to lose the weight gradually with a daily regimen of one can of pulse a day, exercise, and plenty of water. I am now much more conscious of the food that I eat. With my job, I travel a lot, and eat out quite frequently. I look for raw vegetable plates, and avoid the fried and overcooked foods….and stay away from the sugar. I’ve resolved to the fact that I’ll be a diabetic all of my life, even though I now have it under control. I’ve become very aware of how my body reacts to food.

The probiotic has become a daily regimen and I have noticed now that I very seldom have trouble with my colon and sleep better at night…without the morning discomfort of an overstressed colon. Before, when I was having trouble with my colon, I seldom ate more than one or two servings of vegetables a day or fruit in its raw form. But I wasn’t aware that that was the cause of my problem. I enjoy fruit, but never made it a habit of eating or including it in my daily diet. I also enjoy sweets (and still enjoy them) but with Pulse it helps curb this desire.

Ice cream used to be my vice; I made too many stops at the Dairy Queen for a Butterfinger Blizzard, or having an Orange Julius at the Mall. I now will occasionally have the fat-free yogurt with Pulse as a substitute. I seldom drank more than 2 to 3 glasses of pure water a day, thinking that I was getting my necessary liquids in coffee or iced tea. Now I consciously make an effort to have at least the 8 glasses of water a day, and not with a meal.

I have found a way of life now that keeps me going, with less stress, and more energy, knowing that I can keep up with my kids and be able to enjoy life! I’m 9 short years from retirement and want to be able to enjoy it without having medicines as a crutch to drag me down.

At the time we literally stumbled onto a Brain Garden booth at a trade show, I knew I was in bad physical shape because of hypertension. My weight shot up 40 pounds almost overnight, which then caused me to have shortness of breath (my wife often wondered how I was going to draw the next breath), low energy and constant fatigue. The doctor had me on 5 prescriptions for the hypertension, which only complicated everything. We felt at the time that the Food First program could at least offer some help and hope.

Before Food First, I was eating maybe 2 raw, whole foods a day 5 days a week. I'm now eating at least 4 whole foods, plus the 24 in Pulse, every day. I've always been a pretty good drinking water, but I've almost doubled my in-take of water. I did very little exercise, if any at all, before starting Food First but now I walk, lift weights, and use our hydraulic bike at least 5 days a week.

It is amazing what those changes have done for me. Since January, I've lost 32 pounds, I'm down to 2 prescriptions (mild ones compared to the others), blood pressure is down from 188/122 to 122/78, and cholesterol is down from 288 to 139. My kidney function is now normal (I had been getting up 5 times a night). My heart doctor dismissed me because "he has sick people to see" and my internist told me to keep on keeping on with the Pulse. It's wonderful what it has done for me physically but even more wonderful what it has done for my self-esteem.

We’ve lived in the Alaska “bush,” for more than 30 years. Since retiring in 1997, we travel to the lower states every fall for 6 months. Having 5-minute access to all the “wonderful” fast food restaurants and stores, and the resultant change in lifestyle, became more and more obvious.

I had added a few pounds and clothes size even though I exercise often. When I first started the 10-day program, I was quite surprised I lost weight. Even though I was losing weight, I still maintained a high energy level, which surprised me.

It’s hard to get fresh vegetables and fruits in Alaska. Consequently, I was lucky to eat one serving of vegetables every day. I didn’t eat much fruit at all. I’ve been wanting to get healthy food into my life and Food First was a great, convenient way to do that.

Now, thanks to Food First, I’m getting at least 24 raw, whole foods each day. I would get my water from drinking coffee and a mixed protein drink. I also drank a lot of soda. I was lucky to drink one glass of water a day. Now I get 6-8 glasses of water every day.

My maintenance regime is Pulse for breakfast and for my evening meal and snacks. My noon meal consists of high protein, salads and starches. This routine has helped me maintain my weight because I endeavor to run 3 to 4 miles every other day and bike 10 to 12 miles on the off days. I also lift weights. Before Food First, I was doing this same routine, but I’d be exhausted after and would often take a nap. Now, I have much better stamina.

I also think pulse has been a significant factor in my energy level. I believe it has helped my sinusitis problem. I no longer take daily medication for my breathing problem. My heart rate and blood pressure are down. I definitely have more energy and a sense of well being.

My wife said the biggest change she noticed was I don't say I’m tired 5 to 10 times a day, and that I haven’t been napping every day.
