Thomas is the Author's Great-Grandfather. Not much is known about him. He may be related to a Mary A. (Colt) Colvin. In 1917 he purchased a piece of property from this same elderly widow for the sum of $1.00. Mary Colt was the daughter of Charles Colt and Nancy Stewart. Mary's relationship to Thomas could be through either Nancy Stewart or the Charles Colt line. Further evidence supporting this possible family connection comes from the fact that in that same year, 1917, Thomas' daughters also took title to two adjacent pieces of property which may have come from Mary. The exact circumstances of their transaction at that time remains unknown.
Thomas H. Stewart and Mary C. unknown had the following children:
+ 2 i. Laura Genevieve2 Stewart was born September 7, 1875.
3 ii. Edwin L. Stewart was born in Pittsburgh, ALLEGHENY, PA October 1877.
4 iii. Marie Stewart was born after 1877. Marie was listed in a directory in Pittsburgh, ALLEGHENY, PA, 1920.(5) Excerpt from the Pittsburgh, US City Directory:
for 1920 - Stewart, Marie, clk, r 310 45th.
She bought property in Pittsburgh, ALLEGHENY, PA, May 3, 1929.(6)
Marie is the Author's Grandaunt. This is based on an interview with Grace Boyd. She seemed to remember that Laura had a sister. If this is so, it would explain a Certificate of Title that was issued to both of them by The Arcadia Realty Company in 1929. The may have been willed or acquired some property from another family member, most likely Mary A. Colvin.
As further support to the Author's relationship to Marie, Helen Boyd, the Author's mother, stated that sometime around 1950 Laura repaid a debt to her sister who was still living in PA. This was most likely Marie and probably involved the property referrec to in the previous paragraph.
