It is believed that she operated or once owned a small jewerly store in either Pittsburgh or Philedelphia. She may have shared this ownership with her sister, Marie Stewart. Along with Marie, she is listed on a Certificate of Title as the owner of one of two adjacent lots in Township of Richland, Pittsburgh, PA in 1929 having acquired said property on March 24, 1917. This may have been property she received from Mary A. (Colt) Colvin. Mary, a widow, also sold property to Laura's husband for the sum of one dollar on March 8, 1917. Some years later around 1950, Laura paid an unknown sum of money or property to her sister, Marie, which may have concerned this same piece of property.

Jesse was born in York County PA near Centreville in 1881. Centreville no long exists on present day maps. The most probable location for this area today is on the west side of the Susquehannna River across from Safe Harbor in Chester County and a mile north of Shenks Ferry. This is the region referred to by John Gibson in his Biograpical History of York County Pennsylvania. Shenks Ferry was once owned by McCall. Just a mile north of the Ferry is present day Boyd's Run where Jesse's Grandfather, James, built a saw mill.

Sometime before 1914, Jesse moved to Pittsburgh most likely due to a transfer or job offer by the Pennsylvania Railroad. In 1916 Jesse and his family lived at 7201 Bennet in the Homewood suburb of Pittsburgh. By 1920 Jesse and family had moved to 7126 Race Street. This may be the same propetry that Jesse's Father-in-Law, Thomas H. Stewart, purchased from his Mother-in-Law, Mary A. Colvin, in 1917 for the sum of $1.00. The family was still living there as late as 1927.

Sometime before 1941, he moved to Philadelphia and was living at 49th & Pine St. According to a Designation of Beneficiary, his sons, Paul and Stewart were working in Miami, FL in 1941. When he retired from the railroad around 1943, Jesse and his wife Laura joined their sons in Florida and settled in a home at 2266 SW 23rd Avenue. He was still living there when in 1951 at the age of 69, Jesse William Boyd died in his sleep at home from a carcinoma of the pancreas. He was laid to rest at Miami's Woodlawn Memorial Cemetary.
