Richard Pearson and family lived in the city of Pelham which was originally part of Coffee County, TN. Pelham lies near the borders of modern day Coffee, Franklin, and Grundy Counties. This border region changed several times during the first half of the 19th Century. Because of this, the Pearsons in this area appear to change counties. The US Census shows Richard's family in Coffee County during 1840 and in Grundy County ten years later in 1850.

In 1850 Richard lived next door to William Pearson, his brother. In William's household was their 80 yr old father, Charles. Charles probated land back to Kindred Pearson of Bedford County that had been willed to him by Kindred's father, William Pearson of the Enoch Pearson Line, around 1844. Therefore, Charles must have been related to William. There is also additional evidence of this relationship, since several children from the Charles Pearson Family moved from Franklin County to the Bedford-Marshall-Lincoln County area following the Civil War. In fact, Charles' grandson, William Houston Pearson, can be found in the 1870 US Census living within a short distance of William Pearson's SR. (decd.) son, William H. Pearson. This odd coincidence of two unrelated W. H. Pearsons, living so close together and whose families probated land between one another cannot simply be by chance.

By 1860 Richard is no longer listed in the US Census. He may have died. With the coming of the Civil War, his family appears to have moved to the Bedford-Marshall-Lincoln County area as indicated in the 1870 Census.

Richard Pearson and Elizabeth Sanders had the following children:

Richard served in the military in TN, circa 1861.(31) The information below was reported in the "Lincoln County News" on Friday Sept. 17, 1909. Assuming that he was listed as still living in the County at that time, his year of birth would be around 1846. This is in accordance with Richard's birth date (circa 1845).
