At 30 years of age Hubert became the father of Helen Darling Crawford in Miami, DADE, FL, July 18, 1920. Hubert was divorced from Pauline Willerford in Miami, DADE, FL, 1922.
Not much is known about Hubert. While married to Pauline, he worked as a laborer for her father. He and his wife divorced in 1922. Many years later he tried to contact his youngest daughter, Helen. One day during WWII Helen was joining her future husband, Paul, when he pointed to a man on the plaza in front of the Dupont Hotel in downtown Miami. He asked her, "Do you know who that man is? He is your father. Don't you want to go over and see him?" Helen refused and that was last time any member of the family ever saw Hubert again. Even so Helen did correspond with her father until one day she stopped writing him because she felt that he was trying to turn her against the Willerford family that had raised her. She never wrote her father again.
She married Earnest E. Robinson in Miami, DADE, FL, 1924.(67) Occupation: Plasterer.(68) The following is an excerpt from the US City Directories for Miami FL:
1924 Roll #5 p. 714 Robinson, Ernest E (Pauline), plstr h 1226 N E 1st Ave
Not much is known about Earnest Robinson, except that he was only married to Pauline Willerford Crawford for a short time. According to the US City Directories for Miami FL, his occupation was a plasterer. It is likely that he worked for W. T. Willerford, Pauline's father. This is probably how she met him. Then again, it is also possible that they met through a connection with Pauline's sister, Hester. It seems that there was a Burdine's department manager named F. A. Robinson who may have been related to Earnest. Such a relationship needs to be confirmed.
It is about this time that W. T. (Pap) Willerford is unable to continue working as a carpenter and a contractor. Therefore it is assumed that Earnest, seeking employment, moved Pauline and her two youngest daughters, Doris and Helen, to Bradenton, FL. The two eldest daughters, Mary Ruth and Margaret, remained at the Willerford Homestead in Coconut Grove, FL. Following the death of Pauline a year later, Earnest returns the two children to the Willerford household. He was never seen again.
Occupation: Housekeeper. At 19 years of age Pauline became the mother of Mary Ruth Crawford in Columbia, MAURY, TN, August 29, 1915. At 21 years of age Pauline became the mother of Margaret Miller Crawford in Unknown, August 3, 1917. At 23 years of age Pauline became the mother of Doris Pauline Crawford in Allapatta, DADE, FL, June 5, 1919. At 24 years of age Pauline became the mother of Helen Darling Crawford in Miami, DADE, FL, July 18, 1920. Pauline was divorced from Hubert Winfield Crawford in Miami, DADE, FL, 1922.
Not much is known about Pauline. What there is to know about her is that she died at a young age leaving four daughters. She succumbed to complications following an appendectomy. The family was devastated. It then fell upon her sister Hester to raise the four young girls. Pauline was the Author's Grandmother.
Pauline Willerford and Hubert Winfield Crawford had the following children:
