Although I do not handle any of the marketing areas of your website, I am aware of the criteria that you will need in order to be considered a valuable applicant to a search engine. If you are planning on advertising your website through your existing marketing and are not concerned with search engine placement then you will have the ability to use any of the items listed on the pricing page.
If you are planning on marketing your website through search engines, there are some things that you will need to forfeit in order to get placed. Simply let me know at the beginning of design time, and I will make the needed allowances, so that when you contact a website promotion company, the site will need minimal modification.
Did you know?- Not all the search engines work the same
- Some are actual indexes and others are directories
- Some are maintained by real people who review each individual site and influence placement
- On some search engines, your placement is determined by how many OTHER sites have links to you
- Others are automated by robots or spiders
- A robot/spider is a program that scans your site looking for specific criteria
- If you do not have what the robot/spider is looking for you may not even get listed at all
- Some search engines charge you to be reviewed
- Even when you pay, they still do not guarantee that you will be listed with them
- If you weren't listed and would like to try again, you have to pay again - And STILL with no guarantee
- If you use frames on your site, robots will totally ignore your site
- If you use only graphics on your site, robots will ignore your site
- You can create a "doorway" page that is search engine friendly so that you can utilize frames and full graphics on the inner pages
- If you do not have your site designed with meta-keywords and descriptions, when your page appears in some search engines it will pull the first block of text it finds to describe your site - no matter what it is
- If you don't choose a title for you site, only the file name (index.html) will appear in the search engines
- The more sites you have your website linked and listed on, the more chances you have to appear in the search engine. You can piggy-back a ride with their site.
- If you see someone guarantees #1 placement in the search engines, please think twice, even 3 times before you give them your money
- Some website creators have used tricks to get higher placement in the search engines. Such as:
- Repeating keywords over and over on their pages in the same color font as the background
- Using keywords and descriptions that have nothing to do with the content of their page
- Passed out phony awards to create numerous link backs to their site
- All the above mentioned practices will not help your ranking and may even cause your domain to be banned from the search engine
- There are people out there who DO know the RIGHT way to improve your rankings
