OSTPREUSSEN WORGUL- PROSSEK

INTRODUCTION

This genealogy records the lineage of my great grandfather, Jacob Worgul, whose12 children were born in Sabielnen between 1847-1869. It is believed that some of these children married and had children of their own, and their descendants are living in Germany and other countries today. Through this web site, an attempt will be made to find those descendants of Jacob Worgul and his two wives. To this end, genealogies from other Worgul families will be listed on this site in the hopes that links between various Worgul families will be discovered. Other historical information about Worguls will also be listed, especially those who lived in Canonsburg, Pa

The Worgul surname was once very prominent in Ostpreussen, particularly in the district of Johannisburg where the villages of Sabielnen and Worgullen are located. This web site will be of particular interest to you if any one of your ancestors came from that area.

East Prussia, or Ostpreussen, is the historical center of development of Prussia. This is the area from which the Worguls in this genealogy have their roots. Some Worguls came from a small village called Sabielnen, identified on the map above The name was changed in 1938 to Freundligen. After World War II, all of East Prussia was ceded to Poland and Russia, and the village of Sabielnen was given a new name, Zibielne.
