“The Lake Murray Beach Music Society”

Purpose: To provide an entertainment venue for Beach and Shag music lovers in the Lake Murray area in a nice facility with controlled admission.

Details are as follows …

Place: The Cotton House, 7777 Saint Andrews Road, Irmo, SC. This is a very nice facility at a good location for patrons in the Lake Murray area. It can easily seat 100 people. There is a 600 square foot wooden dance floor and a very good heating and air conditioning system. There are nice tables and chairs, carpet, a food service area, and good parking facilities. Eating and shopping are available nearby in the Columbiana/Harbison complex.
Organization: “The Lake Murray Beach Music Society.”
1. This is not a club! It is merely a registry of persons interested in beach music and shag dancing who have plans to attend one or more of the Lake Murray Beach Blast functions. There is no obligation nor any dues involved, we simply need a membership list to qualify our functions as “private parties”. This list will contain all members and they will be “checked off” at the door as they arrive.
2. Each member will sign a waiver releasing the Cotton House and the Society from any and all liability.
3. The organization will be represented by the DJ’s, who are responsible for the contract obligations with the Cotton House. They may ask other members to perform certain tasks, but there are no plans at present to have “officers” and “committees”, etc. If any issues come up that the DJ’s feel the membership needs to decide, a vote will be taken at the next function.
4. If any member causes a problem, they can be asked to leave. Further action can be taken by the DJ’s and/or the membership as needed.
5. These basic rules can be revised either by the DJ’s and/or a vote of the membership, as needed.
6. The basic venue can evolve to suit the needs of the Society.
7. We will keep members informed by the use of email and a website.
Food and Drink Service: Members may furnish their own beverages by bringing coolers to the functions. Ice, cups, soft drinks, water, and a snack food item will be available free of charge at the food & drink areas. If members wish they may make a donation or bring food for themselves or to share with others.
Music: Will consist of beach and shag music, line dances, and slow dances. A few classic rock or special interest songs can be played at the DJ’s discretion or by request..
Dates and Times: Initial plans are to have one event per month, on the last Friday of the month. (if possible, otherwise another Friday date will be selected). The dates scheduled so far are:
- Sept.28, Oct.19, Nov.30, Dec.31, Jan.18, and Feb.29.
- Time is 7 - 11 PM.
- Free shag and line dance lessons are offered at 6:30 PM.
Finances: In the realization that renting the Cotton House is an expensive proposition, members are asked to donate to defray these costs. Accounting will be done after each function to determine the required amount to fund this undertaking. A suggested donation amount will be posted at each function. Checks are the preferred method of payment. They can be made payable to the “Lake Murray BMS”.
