Who is YOUR Role Model?

How do you pick your own role models? It has to do a lot with your Life-Goals! When I see someone, adult or child, pick a role model who has very negative characteristics, I wonder if that person desires to have those negative traits themselves.

It is possible to have a Life-Goal that says "I must win at any cost. Winning is more important than anything else, even good character." Of course that is not a good Life-Goal. If you pick a sports hero because he is mean and nasty and destroys other players on the field, that is not good character. Winning is not the most important goal. To be respected by good people is much more important.

Some might say, well I choose him (or her) for the good traits they have, and ignore the bad traits. I don't believe it is necessary to do that. There are plenty of people who have quality traits, without the very negative traits. Why not choose one of those instead? If you choose the one who has the negative traits, then I strongly suspect that those negative traits have some degree of appeal to YOU! (To win at any cost?) Why else would you make that choice? I am sorry if my statement might offend you, but it is quite realistic!

Stop and think. What does your choice of a role model tell other people about YOU? Is that really the message you want to send?

Mr. Andrews
