Introducing
Real World 101

Real World 101 are class sessions set aside for open-ended use. This author strongly suggests using these class sessions for any of the following purposes:

Suggestions for Guest Speakers

Nurse

Students, from higher grades, (high school, college/university) about what those grades are like.

Doctor

High School students who are running some sort of business. What they learned in school that helps them.

Veterinarian

Teacher discussing what it is like to be a teacher.

Scientist or engineer

Business people - what they look for in workers.

Computer programmer

Business people - how they run a business.

School counselor.

Principal, on what s/he does.

Architect

Police, fire, paramedic people

Real Estate agent

Government worker

Politician

Manager

News media

Advertising

Radio / TV

Pilot

HOBBY or OTHER:

The speakers program can fit nicely with the Mentor Elective. It can stimulate students to seek out a mentor. Speakers may extend their volunteerism into mentoring.

Create forms to be used to solicit, prepare, and schedule guest speakers.

Notify the students in advance of these Real World 101 classes and their general topic. This allows students to think about the subject and questions to ask.
