FROM THE PRESIDENT:
Aloha,
I would like to welcome all the new members to the club. If you need
help in anyway please let us know. I would like to suggest, to the other BKs, that it would be great to focus on a single
annual ride for all Hawaii BKs, where we could get to know each other better, and be able to ride as a contingent. We
could do it locally, or even concentrate on a mainland trip. We all know how it goes with police officers, as
far as shifts, days off, and other committments are concerned, and it takes the effort of putting some special time aside,
to enjoy with our BK brothers and sisters. It definitely helps with the retention of members.
Aloha, .Sterling Lau

FROM THE SECRETARY/TREASURER:
10 SEP 2009
Aloha,
Let me be the first to thank everyone for such a great Labor Day weekend ride
for 2009 on the Big Island.
Preparation for this event was long and hard. The first thanks goes to
Norman Kaleo and Sandy Takizawa for all of their hard work and coordination, starting with the transport of our motorcycles
on the Young Brothers barge from Honolulu to Hilo and back. Not only did they sacrifice their time for the overall members’ comfort by driving the support van
but also for stocking the refreshments and snacks throughout our stay on the
Big Island. I also want to thank my brother Steven Kamanao and my sister-in-law
Kim for also providing support by using their rental vehicle to ferry people back and forth from the Bamboo Garden, the Haleamau’s,
Club Rose, etc.
The Blue Knights Hawaii 1 and the Hui Maka’i
Oahu and Hawaii Chapters were great partners during the
ride. Our care and concern for one another were paramount. This year we had a few bumps and bruises from people having minor incidents but overall we did very well.
During our rides on the Big Island, we experienced some inclement weather for a few days but we were still able to ride and
enjoy the beauty of the Big Island. It was very impressive having so many bikes on the road at one time. Rolling thunder was hitting the asphalt from Hilo
to Kona and back. You could hear the bikes for miles. They heard us coming.
On Sunday, 6 September 2009, we ended our day enjoying the generous hospitality
of the Haleamau family. We enjoyed a wonderful luau with ono food, good music,
and fun times with our friends and family. We again owe our appreciation and
gratitude to the Haleamau’s.
Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and on the morning of 8 September
09, we headed out of the Hilo Hawaiian down to the docks to load our bikes back onto the barge for the trip home to Honolulu.
If anyone wants to check out photos of the 2009 Labor Day Run, please go to the
