In the begining
In 1990 I started learning the basics of blacksmithing. I had no intention
of becoming a blacksmith. But as a reenactor of the 1840s at Sutter's Fort State Historic Park, I knew that people in the
19th century and earlier knew what the blacksmith could do, even if they didn't how he did it. Having this knowledge would
make my interpretation much more convincing.
Enchanted by the Fire

It didn't take long before I found myself completely caught up in the
almost magical transformation of hot metal into useful and atractive pieces of ironwork. Soon I was making items for fellow
reenactors and running the blacksmith shop at Sutter's Fort. I even made a living at it for a while. The commercial work that
I did, and still do on a very limited basis, was done in a small shop that I built behind my home. But it started to become
a JOB, and stopped being fun.
Now it's a hobby again, and the pleasure and magic came back. If you
would like something made for you, email me and we can discuss items and prices. But I won't take money up front because I
can't tell when an item will be finished. The prices I charge are just to keep coal and iron in the forge. My work is truly
a labor of love.
