HELL, CALIFORNIA was buried when they constructed I-10 in the 1960s. It was about thirty miles west of Blythe. About forty miles east is Hope, Arizona. The local Greyhound Depot manager used to say Blythe was half way between Hope and Hell. This site's about the town of Hope.

THE LEGEND OF THE MOJAVE DESERT'S LOST SHIPS Throughout the desert southwest there are legends of Spanish and even Viking ships that sailed into the vast lake that once occupied the Coachella and Imperial Valleys, and were stranded by receding waters. This is one of those legends.
