Despite his aging grandmother’s wishes
that he marry and sire another heir for Pennyworth’s earldom, Clarance “Rance” Burgoyne leads the footloose
life of a well-heeled bachelor, associating with five other Regency bucks who call themselves the Lunar Society--a notorious
group of young men with secret connections to England’s Home Office and the Crown--but known more notably by their devilish
and amorous escapades. Although his grandmother’s apparent frail health bothers him, Rance is not about to live his
life by her dictate—especially when there is so much that he has yet to experience.
Recently widowed Patience Hartford has returned to
England and family, having endured five years lacking in sexual concourse within a marriage of convenience to a much older
man. Newly independent, she purchases a permanent residence in London with the proceeds of her husband’s will and decides
to acquire a virile lover who will satisfy her suddenly awakened needs. But the arrangement has to be on Patience’s
terms-- terms that don’t allow for love or commitment.
In the autumn of 1816, Rance is at first attracted to Patience’s
beauteous younger sister until he meets Patience and learns she is an experienced widow. He is ready for a short-lived fling,
and it turns out, so is Patience.
When Patience and Rance come to an arrangement and consummate
their affair, both realize their carefully planned agendas
will never survive against the fire that consumes them when in each other’s arms. It
seems Fate turns the tables on unsuspecting lovers who begin a reckless affair.
Joyfully Reviewed...
A Reckless Affair was not at all what I
expected it to be. With the addition of Rance’s friends, there was comedic relief. A host of things happened
to Rance and Patience that marked their relationship in good and bad ways. There is one certain event that was a turning
point, to me, and the beginning of the end of their hidden feelings. Patience is a truly passionate woman who was disappointed
in her sexual experiences with her husband and therefore set out to discover just what she was missing, and Rance delivered.
FALLEN ANGEL REVIEWS...
Set against the backdrop of London society, A Reckless Affair focuses on the decadence and debauchery that was
the focus of many. From the practiced flirtation and blatant bids for a wealthy suitor, to the bedrooms of a brothel, this
book shows that London was not all pleasant conversation and tea; instead the city was rife with unrestrained passion.
Patience is a product of her time.
Rance
knows all there is to know about sexual satisfaction and when these two meet, the innuendos fly and eventually so does their
passion. The story wraps up neatly and will entertain fans of the regency era that like to see some heat.
