Where Was Coach When He Died

Nick was years old and living in an assisted living retirement community near Bill in northeast Columbus, Ohio.  Sadly, coach suffered from the effects of dementia.  Coach's beloved wife Jeri passed away peacefully in August of 2000 as a result of a fall. 

Nick enjoyed watching television and participating in the programs provided by the Alterra Sterling house staff.  He took pleasure in singing  old favorite songs like "Show Me the Way to Go Home".   Nick surprised everyone by pulling out his harmonica and playing several of his favorite tunes, including "Fight the Team". Nick and Bill went the driving range to hit golf balls in spring  and summer.  Memory of recent events faded almost instantaneously but names and a few events from the past still remained. Nick had a great  sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh throughout the day.  He constantly amused the caregivers at the Sterling House.  And of course, he was a delight for Bill and for the four granddaughters and the 4 great grandchildren.
