Telling the Story of Nick Kotys and His Family

Having lived in Columbus, Ohio the home of The Ohio State University since 1973,  I have experienced the impact of Woody Hayes on his players and the community.   Dad would call Woody when he and mom would visit us here in the 70's.  Woody would talk to dad about football, recruiting and the problems of discipline on the squad.  When dad inquired as to Woody's "haircut" policy, Woody said, "Nick, I have too many other problems than to concern myself with hair length."  Dad, was a bit surprised with Woody's answer and simply said "Oh, I see..."    Dad understood that college players have many more distractions to contend with in their role as high profile student-athletes.

Just as Woody had a great effect on his players and the community of Columbus,  I know the Coral Gables coaches influenced many lives as well.  The legacy of championship seasons is more inspiring  to me now with the perspective of time.  There are dynasties of football in Ohio, but none can match the Coral Gables record as a public high school in a metropolitan area.

Dad received letters from former players, telling stories of his or other coaches' influence on their lives.  I know that there are more personal stories to be told.  I'm sure some are funny and maybe embarrassing, but please share them with us!    As a family, we'd cherish those individual examples.
