This portion of the Kotys site is dedicated to Nick and the memory of his teams, coaches and the records that they have achieved. Coach Nick died on July 28, 2005. His happy smile and singing to all of us will be missed. Please help perpetuate his memory. We ask friends to contribute their stories about Nick, his players and coaches which can be included on these pages Born in Monessen, PA in 1913 Graduated from Villanova University in '36 with a B.S. degree in Economics and Education. Began coaching career in Shickshinny. Bloomsburg, and Pottsville, Pennsylvania where he complied thirteen-year record of 98 wins, 24 losses, and 7 ties. Became Backfield Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Yale University in 1949, during which time he coached in 5 College All-Star Games. Accepted Head Football and Athletic director position at Coral Gables High School in 1952. During the next 20 years Coral Gables won 160, lost 33 and tied 9 and was named State Champions 6 years and National Champions 4 years. Named National High School Athletic Coaches association football “Coach of The Year” in 1967. Selected Florida Athletic Coaches Association Football “Coach of the Year” four times. Elected to the National High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame, the Villanova College Hall of Fame, and into the Florida Sportswriters and Sportscasters Hall of Fame. Served on American Football Coaches Association Program Committee (High School). Received FACA Life Membership and Meritorious Service Awards for his outstanding contribution to the high school athletic program in Florida.
