Due to her expanding professional pursuits, appointment times are limited. Currently, new appointment can be scheduled
in only 3 Florida locations. You do not need to be referred to your veterinarian to be seen by Dr. JD, however your veterinarian
will receive a behavior consultation report after the appointment.
Dr. JD cannot answer questions about a pet she has not seen. As a doctor she cannot diagnose or recommend treatment without
an examination; that could be potentially dangerous for you or your pet and constitutes malpractice.

In order for a veterinary behaviorist to diagnose and treat a pet, a doctor-patient-owner relationship must be established.
That means that the doctor must meet the patient to perform an evaluation. For a list of board certified veterinary behaviorists,
click on the link below. Because not all states have qualified diplomates, some university-based behaviorists offer consultations
through the pet's family veterinarian.
Many veterinarians that have a personal interest in veterinary behavior medicine belong to the American Veterinary Society
of Animal Behavior. Membership does not confer qualifications or expertise in the field but you may be able to find a veterinarian
in your area willing to try to help if a board certified behaviorist is not available.

In addition, a few veterinarians at veterinary university hospitals will accept behavior cases, even if they are not board
certified. If you are near a veterinary school, call the small animal clinic and ask.
