Who is IFFM? YOU are IFFM! Illinois Families For Midwifery (IFFM) is a consumer-based organization.
Our purpose is to increase public awareness regarding the availability and benefits of the Midwives Model of Care and the
need for licensure of Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) in Illlinois. IFFM organizes consumers to support legislative
efforts and works cooperatively with other organizations in the Illinois State Legislature to pass a CPM licensure law.
Certified Professional Midwives are skilled and qualified professionals as recognized by the North American Registry of Midwives.
IFFM recognizes the CPM credential as the entry level standard of competent, indpendent, direct-entry midwifery practice.

"There is increasing emphasis these days on 'evidence-based medicine.' As we have seen, midwifery tends to be more evidence-based
than obstetrics because midwives are generally less interventive than physicians, and the scientific evidence shows that many
common interventions do more damage than good. Any doctor who actually looks at the evidence instead of relying solely on
what he is taught by biomedical tradition will take note of the benefits of midwifery care, and will thus be less likely to
assume a blanket superiority of obstetrics."
