To
report a tagged animal please write down the Tag Number, Species,
sex, length, weight, location, date and time of the catch and
report it to Ron Clough, 805-469-9027 or biolab@earthlink.net
.

Tagging
sharks and rays helps us to collect data on migration and recapture
rates for these animals. Our tags look exactly like the diagram
above. The barbed head of the tag is buried in the flesh of the
shark or ray so all you see on the animal is the 3 inch yellow
tail with contact and tag info printed on it.
If
you see one of our tags on a live shark or ray please GET THE
TAG NUMBER then identify the species, sex, length, weight and
note the date, time and location where the shark or ray was caught.
Then gently release the shark or ray back into the ocean.
If
you see one of out tags on a dead shark or ray please GET THE
TAG NUMBER then identify the species, sex, length, weight and
note the date, time and location where the shark or ray was caught.
Then collect the tag and return it to us with a 2 inch circle
of tissue around the area where the tag was attached.
Tags properly
returned with flesh sample will get a shark and ray count T-shirt.
If
you see a tag on ANY animal report it as soon as possible. Most
research projects have a contact number or address right on the
tag, but if you cant find it or don't know what to do, report
it to us and we will try to get the information to the proper
authority.
To
learn how to tag sharks and rays you will need to come to the
meetings.
