I've been on a bicycle since elementary school. When I was in 7th grade I'd ride my Schwinn 10 speed over to my girlfriend's house four miles away.
Many years passed and I had no bike. So, the girl I was dating suggested getting a couple of mountain bikes. So we did. I had mine for seven years until it got stolen December of 1996. The worse of it is that it rarely went off road. At the time most every one I knew was on road bikes so I purchased a used Italian piece of steel.
For a couple of years I commuted 13 miles RT two to three times a week for about six months of the year!
