To The Many Who Know Him, This Is His Story Told

Introduction:

I first met him in the mid 1970's, and our friendship has lasted all these years. I called him Sandy for many years, then he became known as Shelby to me.
This is dedicated to my friend, Shelby. I will miss his humor, warmth, his deep self awareness and friendship deeply.

My good friend came to visit one day
We had a lot to share & say

Our paths have crossed deeply in this life along the way
I am his friend, Kay

God made a beautiful, kind, and sensitive soul in this mans' ball of clay
Our friendship was deep, never thru life did it sway

The potter's wheel is likened to a blacksmith's fire
One turning to clay, and the other to man's desire

Pleasing all of us around him, by his work of hire
Can't you hear God's angels here today, singing in the choir

We all have gifts of ourselves to share
If only we dare

When something as tangible like "the hat" I gave to him took hold
It fit his head like a crown of gold

Although life took it's hard toll
"The hat" joined us together and became part of this man's soul

When he left from our visit and we were to part
He gave me a necklace, which he cherished from his heart

It is an eagle in flight
This truly has much insight

He said it had been passsed around like "the hat", and one day he
Would find the right person for the necklace to belong, and it was me!

Isn't it wonderful what God puts in our spirits to see
He knows our innermost being with treasures, which fills our heart with glee

Don't you think truly, that this was meant to be
And Shelby's soul is now free

For the lamp of the Lord searches a spirit of a man
Truly, we're all connected in God's wonderful plan

We give light back by taking each other's hand
When we bind together, we make a stand

He will deeply be missed and each time I see a hat, or touch my necklace, I'll feel God's grace like it was shown on Shelby's face.
