To Roger Glover of Eagan,
who was published by the RedStar on Sunday 4-17-05, and to the leftists running
the DFL party line pages (AKA the Sunday op-ed section): Again you print a letter that lies about the
proposal to allow property owners to force a referendum on a raise in property
tax rates. Yes, the “landed nobility”
(Roger’s term) get to force the referendum if enough of them feel it is out of
line, but when it comes to a vote, each eligible voter gets to make the
decision. If you own property, you get
to try to force a vote, but your tenants all get to vote- they can agree or
disagree with you as they like. So in a
town like Hopkins,
businesses with relatively huge amounts of property like Super Value get one
vote to put the increase on the ballot and ZERO votes in the election. AlLandlord with 100 units (on one property) who
lives in another town gets the same deal, but his tenants all get to vote. Isn’t it just possible that the property
owner who can’t vote on his own level of taxation is the “disenfranchised” one?
