The Big Apple Lindy Hoppers are the performance company of the New York Swing Dance
Society, a nonprofit
organization. The Big Apple Lindy
Hoppers have been performing since the mid-1980s at such venues as First Night
New York City, Radio City Music Hall, Taj Mahal Atlantic City, The Battery Park
Conservancy, Waterside Plaza, Roseland Ballroom, and numerous others.
Frankie
Manning, one of the
original Lindy Hoppers and inspiration to swing dancers the world over for almost 75 years, was
cofounder and original choreographer of the group, and his still choreography comprises the core of the group’s repertoire.
Additional commissioned works include numbers by Ryan Francois &
Jenny Thomas, Steven Mitchell, Laura Jeffers, and Matt Bedell.
The
goal of the Big Apple
Lindy Hoppers is to play a role in keeping Lindy Hop alive and kicking-
honoring the traditional Lindy Hop of Frankie Manning and his contemporaries
and showcasing the work of younger dancers and choreographers. We also aim to provide
troupe members
a fun, challenging forum in which to learn exciting choreography and develop
their skills as dancers and performers.
