First Generation

1. Hiram¹ Halcomb, son of Samuel Halcomb and Louisa (Eliza) McKead, was born in Linefork, Letcher County, Kentucky 23 February 1870. Hiram died 26 February 1965 in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky, at 95 years of age. Hiram was living with his daughter, Daisy, when he suddenly became ill and was hospitalized. He died several days later while trying to recuperate at Ruby's Rest Home. Hiram is buried in Loyal, Harlan County, Kentucky at Resthaven Cemetery.

He married twice. Hiram married Martha Mornan Cornett 2 April 1893 in Letcher County, Kentucky. Oddly, in this record, their names are listed as H. W. Holcomb, Jr. and Maurine Cornett. Even more odd, there is also a second marriage recorded for Hiram and Mornan on 29 April 1912 in Harlan County, Kentucky.

Mornan was born 24 July 1879 in Dione, Harlan County, Kentucky. Although Mornan's tombstone and death certificate has 1979 as her birth year, she may have been a couple years older according to some census records. Mornan was the daughter of John Baxter Cornett and Nancy Margaret Thomas.

Mornan died 14 November 1954 in Keavy, Laurel County, Kentucky, at 75 years of age. Mornan is buried in Loyal, Harlan County, Kentucky at Resthaven Cemetery. Hiram married Della Huff 1956 in Keavy, Laurel County, Kentucky. Della was born.

Hiram worked (self employed) as timberman, farmer & merchant. Hiram and Mornan had their children and raised them in Harlan County, Kentucky. After all the children were born, they bought a home in Dione, Harlan County, Kentucky near the cemetery where several family members are buried. The cemetery is on private property but is sometimes referred to as Cornett Cemetery.
