Bill married Anna Ruth Burton 4 May 1957 in Clinton, Anderson County, Tennessee. Ann was born 21 December 1938 in Strong Hollow, Anderson County, Tennessee. Ann was the daughter of Roscoe Burton and Mossie Lee Strong. Ann died 11 July 1998 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, at 59 years of age. Ann is buried in Anderson County, Tennessee at Anderson Memorial Gardens.

Bill had military service with the U.S. Army during the early 1950's. Bill is a retired Architectural Project Manager. he retired October 1976 from Goodstein & Associates in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. Shirley was born 7 July 1959 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. Shirley is the daughter of Paul Eugene Mclain and Mary Elizabeth Arden. Shirley and Randy divorced 1988 in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. Randy married Sarah Amy "Toni" Walker 25 April 1998 in Strong Hollow, Anderson County, Tennessee. Disney died 22 January 1946 in Lynch, Harlan County, Kentucky, at 37 years of age. Disney is buried in Totz (Dione ), Harlan County, Kentucky at a private cemetery.

Disney married Ada Daugherty 19 February 1931 in Louellen, Harlan County, Kentucky. Ada was born 15 August 1913 in Stainville, Anderson County, Tennessee. Dorothy was born 11 April 1933 in Beaubier, Saskatchewan, Canada. Dorothy is the daughter of Walter Ludwig Janke and Torrie Marie May.

Joe retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sgt., June 1976 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Joe is a retired Logistics Service Manager. he retired 15 June 1994 from Sears in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee. Joe resides at 297 Lovely Bluff Road, in Lake City, Anderson County, Tennessee.

12. Hiram³ Halcomb (Samuel⁴, Henderson (Holcombe)⁵, Samuel (Halcomb)⁶ Holcombe, William⁷) was born in Linefork, Letcher County, Kentucky 23 February 1870. Hiram died 26 February 1965 in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky, at 95 years of age. Hiram was living with his daughter, Daisy, when he suddenly became ill and was hospitalized. He died several days later while trying to recuperate at Ruby's Rest Home. Hiram is buried in Loyal, Harlan County, Kentucky at Resthaven Cemetery.

He married twice. Hiram married Martha Mornan Cornett 2 April 1893 in Letcher County, Kentucky. Oddly, in this record, their names are listed as H. W. Holcomb, Jr. and Maurine Cornett. Even more odd, there is also a second marriage recorded for Hiram and Mornan on 29 April 1912 in Harlan County, Kentucky.

Mornan was born 24 July 1879 in Dione, Harlan County, Kentucky. Mornan was the daughter of John Baxter Cornett and Nancy Margaret Thomas. Mornan died 14 November 1954 in Keavy, Laurel County, Kentucky, at 75 years of age. Mornan is buried in Loyal, Harlan County, Kentucky at Resthaven Cemetery. Hiram married Della Huff 1956 in Keavy, Laurel County, Kentucky. Della was born.

Hiram worked (self employed) as timberman, farmer & merchant. Hiram and Mornan had their children and raised them in Harlan County, Kentucky. After all the children were born, they bought a home in Dione, Harlan County, Kentucky near the cemetery where several family members are buried. Martha was born about 1896 in Kentucky. Martha was the daughter of Granville Cornett and Jennie Harbour. Martha died 14 February 1952 in Kentucky, at 55 years of age. Trimble was born 27 October 1908 in Three Forks, Harlan County, Kentucky. Trimble was the son of Jonathan McCoy and Vicie Varney. Trimble died 27 September 1968 in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky, at 59 years of age. Trimble is buried in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky at a local cemetery.

22. Martha Mornan³ Cornett (John Baxter⁴, James⁵, John Samuel⁶, John⁷, Earl⁸, Erin⁹) was born in Dione, Harlan County, Kentucky 24 July 1879. Although Mornan's tombstone and death certificate has 1979 as her birth year, she may have been a couple years older according to some census records. Mornan died 14 November 1954 in Keavy, Laurel County, Kentucky, at 75 years of age. Mornan is buried in Loyal, Harlan County, Kentucky at Resthaven Cemetery.

Mornan married Hiram Halcomb 2 April 1893 in Letcher County, Kentucky. Oddly, in this record, their names are listed as H. W. Holcomb, Jr. and Maurine Cornett. Even more odd, there is also a second marriage recorded for Hiram and Mornan on 29 April 1912 in Harlan County, Kentucky.

Hiram died 26 February 1965 in Middlesboro, Bell County, Kentucky, at 95 years of age. Hiram is buried in Loyal, Harlan County, Kentucky at Resthaven Cemetery. 23. William English³ Daugherty (James Boyd⁴, William⁵, Ell M.⁶) was born in Rosedale, Anderson County, Tennessee 8 June 1885. English died 19 September 1941 in Corbin, Whitley County, Kentucky, at 56 years of age. According to a Corbin newspaper, English was shot and killed by a man named R.O. Fore at Fore's home. Fore told the Knox County investigating officers he thought English was trying to break into his home because he had yelled for him to leave and when English continued banging and trying to get someones attention, Fore shot him with a 22 rifle through the screen door. Apparently this was an accidental shooting, since Fore didn't know English was almost deaf and may have stopped at his home to ask for directions. English is buried in Grays Knob, Harlan County, Kentucky at Shady Grove Cemetery.

He married twice. English married Mary Ellen Jones 1910 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Mary was born 9 July 1892 in Stainville, Anderson County, Tennessee. Mary was the daughter of Thomas James 'Jimmy' Jones and Judy Byrge. Mary died 23 May 1967 in Covington, Kentucky, at 74 years of age. Mary is buried in Anderson County, Tennessee at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Mary and English divorced about 1933 in Harlan County, Kentucky. English married Della Fee about 1934 in Kentucky. Della was born 15 May 1901.

English had military service with the U. S. Army during about 1905 to 1908. English was employed with several mining companies as a coal miner.

William English Daugherty and Mary Ellen Jones had the following children:

• 24 i. Byrd Edward² Daugherty was born in Stainville, Anderson County, Tennessee 27 June 1911. He married twice. Byrd married Eva Mae Lynch 1934 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Eva was born 20 July 1915 in Minnesota. Eva died circa 1984 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Eva and Byrd divorced 1943 in Calumet City, Cook County, Illinois. Byrd married Ula Fay Wilson 19 May 1945 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Ula was born 25 November 1918 in Carrollton, Carroll County, Kentucky. Ula is the daughter of Harry Wilson and Clara Khron.

Byrd was employed with many companies as a Salesman. Byrd worked in several coal mines in Tennessee before moving north. He started working in factories before finding his niche in sales. Byrd also owned and developed some memorial gardens before he retired.

Byrd resides at 309 Leach Street, in Lake City, Anderson County, Tennessee.

• 25 iii. Lula Daugherty was born in Stainville, Anderson County, Tennessee 1 March 1915. Lula died 17 March 1972 in Lexington, Kentucky, at 57 years of age. Lula and Russell had an automobile accident and Lula's injury was what the doctors described as a typical seat belt injury. She remained in a Lexington hospital until her death about a month after the wreck. Lula is buried in Anderson County, Tennessee at Anderson Memorial Gardens. She married twice.

Lula married Mitchell Collett about 1932. Mitchell was born. Mitchell and Lula divorced about 1938 in Tennessee. Lula married James Russell Roach 1 October 1938 Anthras, Anderson County, Tennessee. Lula and Russell started their marriage with 9 children ranging in age from one year to fourteen years. Within about two years they were raising ten children, both accepting the other's children as their own.

Russell was born 13 March 1901 in Campbell County, Tennessee. Russell was the son of James Henry Roach and Christine Carline 'Callie' Wilson. Russell died 1 June 1975 in Fairborn, Greene County, Ohio, at 74 years of age. Russell is buried in Anderson County, Tennessee at Anderson Memorial Gardens. Russell was employed with International Envelope as a security guard in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. Russell worked many years at coal mines in Tennessee before he moved to Dayton, Ohio about 1950.

• 26 iv. McKinley Daugherty was born in Stainville, Anderson County, Tennessee 26 August 1916. Ken died 8 July 1945 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at 28 years of age. Ken is buried in Columbus, Indiana at a local Cemetery. Ken married Bernice ????_ski 1942 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Bernice was born about 1920 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

Ken was employed with a Manufacturing Company as a factory worker in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Ken worked a few years in Tennessee coal mines before he moved north about 1940.

• 27 v. Nellie Roxie Daugherty was born in Block, Campbell County, Tennessee 2 August 1918. Nellie married Elmer S. Taylor 14 December 1941 in Corbin, Whitley County, Kentucky. Elmer was born 1 February 1905 in Kentucky. Elmer died 16 June 1986 in Covington, Kentucky, at 81 years of age. Elmer is buried in Covington, Kentucky at a local cemetery. Elmer was employed with Dry Cleaning Companies as a dry cleaner.

Samuel married Louisa (Eliza) McKead 29 January 1853 in Perry County, Kentucky. One source stated marriage was June 29, 1853

Louisa was born January 1836 in Kentucky. Louisa died in Missouri. Sam and Louisa's family were in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census at Linefork, Letcher County, Kentucky. Some of his children stayed in that area and we are starting to get information on them. Sam's grandaughter, Preshie was told by her father (Hiram) that Sam and one of his sons were convicted of murder and went to prison where they both died. I have another report I am trying to verify that says "Samuel Halcomb and son (William) were involved in a fight in the late 1800's at Letcher Co., Ky. and a man was killed. They were convicted of murder and sent to prison." After whatever happened, Louisa and two children, Martin and Dillard (Dilts) went to Taney Co., Missouri after 1890, where they are listed in the 1900 census. Samuel may have served in the Civil War. In the special 1890 census taken in Letcher Co., Ky. There was this listing: Louisa HALCOMBS, widow of Samuel HALCOMBS, Private, Co. H, 47th. Ky. Inf.

Sarah married Henderson (Holcombe) Halcomb 11 January 1826 in Kentucky. Henderson was born 10 January 1798 in Caswell County, North Carolina. Henderson was the son of Samuel (Halcomb) Holcombe and Hannah Henderson. Henderson died 1898 in Kentucky, at 100 years of age. 90. James⁵ Cornett (John Samuel⁶, John⁷, Earl⁸, Erin⁹) was born in Clay County, Kentucky 3 January 1814. James died.

James married Morning McKnight 25 February 1833 in Scott County, Virginia. Morning was born 10 September 1814 in Ohio. Morning was the daughter of James McKnight and Mary (Polly) Neil. Morning died.

John is buried in Island Ford, Anderson County, Tennessee at Riverview Cemetery. He married twice. John married Ploimeny (Polly) Hall 16 November 1856 in Letcher County, Kentucky. Ploimeny was born about 1840 in Whitesburg, Letcher County, Kentucky. Ploimeny was the daughter of Alfred Hall and Roxanna Miller (Polly). Ploimeny died. Ploimeny and John divorced in Letcher County, Kentucky. John married Jane Burris 13 February 1869 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Jane was born 27 July 1848 in Anderson County, Tennessee. Jane was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Burris and Lavina Beech. Jane died 28 August 1922 in Strong Hollow, Anderson County, Tennessee, at 74 years of age. Jane is buried in Island Ford, Anderson County, Tennessee at Riverview Cemetery. John Strong was born in Kentucky as Clark Cornett, the son of James Cornett and Morning McKnight. Clark/John spent the first twenty-five or so years of his life in (Perry and) Letcher County, Kentucky. He left his first family there in 1861. There have been many unconfirmed rumors, but his real reason for leaving is not clearly known at this time. He came to Coal Creek, Anderson County, Tennessee and used the name John Strong sometime in the 1860's. We are still trying to determine his whereabouts between 1861 and 1869. It is not known if he came to Coal Creek directly or not. There are about eight years between the time he left his first wife, Polly Hall and when he married his second wife, Jane Burris. The Civil War was starting about the time he left Letcher County, KY. and we are investigating a report that he might have served in that war. There were many families split up during the war in that area. Men from that part of the country served on both sides and in some cases brothers fought on different sides. After John married Jane Burris, he stayed in Anderson County, Tennessee the rest of his life. He became active in church work and helped organize Island Ford Baptist Church in 1892. John joined Longfield Baptist Church in August 1873. When Island Ford Baptist Church was instituted in l892, he became a charter member of that body. While John was Clark Cornett, he married his first wife 16 November 1856 in Letcher County, Kentucky and they had three children together. John left Kentucky before the last child was born so he probably never saw her. Their only son was killed at age 16, but the two girls married and had several children. After Clark and Polly's marriage ended she married Clark's 2nd cousin, Larkin Cornett and they had several children together.

• 120 i. Franklin⁴ Daugherty was born in Anderson County, Tennessee 12 June 1845. Franklin was William's step-son. He was Martha's son born out of wedlock and his real father is unknown. Franklin died 7 July 1864 in Richmond, Wayne County, Virginia, at 19 years of age. Franklin enlisted in the Union Army on 1 March 1862. He was 16 years old when he joined. He was captured by the Confederate Army and was a prisoner of war when he died at the Army Hospital in Richmond. Franklin's mother, Martha applied for and was awarded a war pension based on his service.

• 121 ii. Polly Daugherty was born in Anderson County, Tennessee 12 March 1848. Polly was William's step-daughter. She was Martha's daughter born out of wedlock and her real father is unknown. Samuel married Hannah Henderson 29 December 1789 in Caswell County, North Carolina. Hannah was born about 1768 in North Carolina. Hannah was the daughter of Samuel Henderson and Priscilla Miles. Hannah died after 1840 census in Harlan County, Kentucky. Samuel is the oldest verified ancestor in my Halcomb line. However, I have received unconfirmed information that Samuel Halcombe was born in 1765. The information states, he was the son of George Halcombe II and Martha Fields Archer. The book Family Histories Of Letcher County show similar information and states Samuel and Hannah were married in 1787 instead of 1797. I have more recently received other information showing Samuel's father was William Holcombe, but mother was not named. The information showed Samuel had a brother named George Holcombe. I have used the later in my data, because of the research done by Wilma Parker Johnson and her contact from the Carolinas.

155. Hannah⁶ Henderson (Samuel⁷) was born in North Carolina about 1768. Hannah died after 1840 census in Harlan County, Kentucky. There is an entry in the Defeated Creek Diary for a Hannah Halcomb who died 21 June 1852.

Hannah married Samuel (Halcomb) Holcombe 29 December 1789 in Caswell County, North Carolina. Samuel was born about 1766 in Orange County, North Carolina. Samuel was the son of William Holcombe. (See Samuel (Halcomb) Holcombe for the children resulting from this marriage.) Hannah left North Carolina in the early 1800s and came to Perry County, Kentucky. She either married or lived with Thomas Yearly/Early for several years and they had several children together. Hannah was probably in Thomas's household for the 1820 and 1830 census, but they were in separate households in the 1840 census. Hannah's three sons went by the Yearly/Early name until they were grown. Some of them were listed in the 1830 and 1840 Perry County Census as Yearlys.

156. John Samuel⁶ Cornett (John⁷, Earl⁸, Erin⁹) was born in Henrico County, Virginia 7 May 1759. Samuel died 12 March 1849 in Dione, Harlan County, Kentucky, at 89 years of age. Samuel is buried in Totz (Dione ), Harlan County, Kentucky at a private cemetery.

He married twice. Samuel married Mary Brennan 18 May 1791 in Virginia. Mary was born about 1774 in Virginia. Mary died about 1795 in Virginia. Ell's age has been shown in a range of several years on various census, military records, genealogys etc. Since at least two affiant's swore to his November 1830 marriage, it's not likely he was born much later than about 1815. It is possible he was born as early as 1808 because the doctor who signed his discharge papers said he was fifty five years old in May of 1863. The place of birth shown as Campbell County was taken from military records and may not be correct because someone may have made that assumption because he had enlisted at Jacksboro in Campbell County. Ell died May 1875 in Anderson County, Tennessee, at 59 years of age. Ell died from Disease of the Bowels. He had a Rupture on the left side in the lower extremity of his bowels. He was ruptured during his service in the Civil War. Ell is buried in Rosedale, Anderson County, Tennessee at Bunch Cemetery. Ell's grave is marked with Co. A, 1st Tenn Inf. which is the name of the unit he served with in the Civil War.

Ell married Nancy ?Maiden? November 1830 in Anderson County, Tennessee. They were married by Joseph M. Asher, J.P. and the wedding was witnessed by old Daniel Daugherty, b.1797 and Sarah Patterson, b.1800. The record was lost during the war, but Nancy, Daniel and Sarah swore to the facts when Nancy applied for her widow's pension.

Nancy was born about 1809 in Tennessee. Nancy died 21 March 1905 in Anderson County, Tennessee, at 95 years of age. Nancy is buried in Rosedale, Anderson County, Tennessee at Bunch Cemetery. By comparing several individual sets of research, we have established our Daugherty line back to Ell M. Daugherty b.1815 - d.1875. We are still trying to determine the route before him. When the Civil War erupted, most of those in the New River, Tennessee area remained loyal to the Union. Ell Daugherty and two of his sons, Daniel and Bird enlisted in the Union Army. Ell Daugherty served from 2 August 1861 until 23 May 1863 when he received a Discharge for Disability. Ell was described in his discharge papers as being forty four years of age, five feet eleven inches high, dark complexion, blue eyes and black hair.
