I don't know much about the life and times of Janet Weiss. All I really know is that she thought

listening to sleater-kinney and then playing with them was like playing with the ramones.

She rocks.

The other thing I know is that she's the one that finally made me realize that I wouldn't be

happy unless I fulfilled my dream to play drums.

See, I had totally given up on that dream. I wanted to play drums for so long....

I just didn't have the means to do it. Then my friend offered to teach me bass. I really did

like playing bass....problem...no money to buy a bass to practice. I have since inherited

my grandfathers acoustic and electric guitar w/out an amp. I know, I know...some of you would

kill to inherit that. I was WAY excited....but, it's not my dream.

I'm still plucking away on the guitar 'cuz i think it's important to be a well rounded musician...

but, I wanna play DRUMS!

I have banged around on my friends a few times and it's what I want.

Talking to Janet after the sleater-kinney show in Cincinnati made me finally decide to go for it.

She was totally like, DO IT! Get a drum set and beat along with your albums.

So, my friend plays drums and his band is about to buy a new set and guess who gets the old one?

ME! ME! ME!

See how things just fall into your lap when you finally live your dream.

This page is in thanks to Janet for doing that for me.

And for kicking me in the ass. It's what I needed!

@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*

Well, since I last wrote I've found out some new kick ass info on Janet. Like, Janet the person.

Are you as excited as I am?

Well, first, if you've visited my link page you probably noticed that there is

a new link. That's right. A Janet related link.

It's a link to a page for the band

Quasi.

Guess who's in it?

Janet!

Go girl. The band used to be called Motorgoat according to Lena.

Janet also did some work with a band called Junior High. No info on that though.

Toni sent some pretty cool Janet info. Did anyone else know that (at least as of a year ago)

Janet hasn't EVER had any carbonated beverages? Cool, heh?

And, not that I want to get too personal but a little birdie told me that she used to be married

to the other half of Quasi (Sam). Actually it's in just about every CD review,

so, I don't have to feel bad about putting it here.

That'll be about as personal as I get. I don't want to step on any toes.

If you think I have e me and I might take that part off.

Cuz, even though this is about Janet it's going to focus a lot on her

totally KICK ASS drumming skills.

I was trying to play along with a live sleater show that I have and I was

a bit lost. I'm just starting out though. Give me some time.

E me with more facts if ya got 'em!

PS:I'm not sure why my pictures are black and white....I'll have that fixed asap!

@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*

I suck. I still haven't fixed the black and white pictures.

But, the page is growing...right?

Do you like what you see? Let me know!

I finally have a Quasi CD. I found it on my trip to Louisville of all places.

I love it!

It just proves to me again that Janet is the best drummer in my book.

If you think Janet is a kick ass drummer wait till you hear this album.

Pick up a copy of _R&B Transmogrification_ today!

She's amazing. What talent!

And backing vocals too....mmmmhmmm!

An email from Gretchen assures me that motorgoat and Quasi are two

VERY different bands.

Motorgoat only has a 7" out that probably can't be found.

It was Janet and Sam and a bassist.

Quasi adds keyboards and drops the bass.

Look for Quasi on UP records.

Look for me at the Quasi/Elliot Smith show in Cincinnati!

In case you are wondering, my drumming is coming along well. If only I had my own

set...I'd be a rock star by now.

whatever.

@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*

Well, I fixed the picture of Janet and I. I think it looks better black and white.

I'm leaving both versions on the picture page.

The Quasi/Elliot Smith show was never confirmed in Cincinnati according to Up records.

So, I won't be going tonight and Quasi won't be playing near me this time.

My dumb luck.

I did get to talk to Janet at yo.yo.A.go.go though.

She and Corin have both feasted their eyes on this page. How exciting.

They both really like it too. Janet assured me that she showed everyone at her old work.

That makes me feel that I've accomplished something. It's small, but important.

So, I gave Janet some pictures and she asked about my drumming.

At the time I was trying to learn fills. I'm picking them up much better now.

I practiced on the dash board almost the whole 9 hour drive to and from New York.

The driver hated me.

@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*

Well, I'm doing this whole web process much different now.

I've moved and changed jobs and changed computers...completely.

I used to be a mac girl and now I'm on a PC. It's not because I want to be....

I miss my mac.

But, I've felt that I've been neglecting this page.

It's mostly because it's much more difficult to make changes now.

I don't have any new and exciting info on Janet either.

She's still my drummer idol. She still rules.

She's back from her European tour with Sleater-kinney. Most of you knew that though.

Now that I'm stuck back in the mid-west, I don't have much of a chance of running into her.

Actually, slim to none.

Sad news....I still don't have my own kit.

I've been playing as much as possible though...

the drumming is there....I just need a kit.

Anyone up for starting a fund?

Actually, it shouldn't be too much longer before I get it.

I never knew drumming could be so expensive! I've learned a lot in the past 8 months!

11-30-97

@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*

Hey Friends!

Guess who has her own kit?

Rah! Rah! Me! It's used and beat up and the floor tom falls over and it's great!

I beat away just about every night. It's getting there.

I'll be starting a band this summer. Details to follow.

Janet emailed the new picture to me. I like it that I now have an "exclusive" pic.

She's such a sweetie it makes me happy I do this page!

As soon as I get permission I'll have some interesting stuff up about Janet's phobias!

Stay tuned for that and a link to a Janet interview from drummergirl!

Actually, Check drummergirl out. Donna has done some re-vamping! It's awesome!

Take care and keep email mailing me! I love it!

@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*@*

Well, look what the cat dragged in!

It's been so long I forget what I should say!!!! hahaha

I've been getting some email about the page and it gave me motivation to get back on it!

Thanks for all the motivation and pictures and stories. I really do love them.

I never got permission to use the phobias stuff. Oops. But, it's pretty common knowledge now that janet has an "orange" phobia

Not the color...the fruit.

Other stuff that is common knowledge:

Sleater-Kinney finished their re-scheduled tour. They played Yo-Yo which wrapped up this past week.

Quasi is working on a new albumn

Sleater-Kinney finally stuck a mic in Janet's face. She's singing backups on some of the old songs when they do 'em live.

We love that!

I haven't seen them live since Detroit '98.

The show was weird but i won't go into that

I found a friend to play with. She used to play violin and I convinced her she'd be great at guitar.

She is.

We are taking it one step at a time though cuz we are both new at the whole thing and aren't even sure how to write music.

again I'll say: wish us luck!
