Many, Many of the other "venues" are 21 and over. Like Brownies and Mercury Lounge which of course all the good indie bands play. But the best small places are Continental, CBGB, does anyone listen to the band LADYBUG from Taiwan. They are amazing. I know they are playing CMJ. Get their cd now. Kinda punkish, but evil aggression. Accented cussing also. also, are many of the venues 21+? is coney island high? > >questions!questions!questions! > >any info is appreciated! xjimmy > > > "The Butter08 Site" http://members.tripod.com/~butterof69/ --------------- MESSAGE wordsandguitar.v001.n323.4 --------------- From: TeenCPower@aol.com Subject: Re: Digest wordsandguitar.v001.n322 Date: Tue, 1 Sep 1998 01:22:45 EDT MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit In a message dated 98-09-01 00:42:49 EDT, you write: << are many of the venues 21 >> i dont know w hich venues are involved in CMJ but i can tell you which venues are always over 21 or 18 and the basic rules at those places brownies --- always over 21, id required coney island high --- all ages tramps -- all ages most of the time the cooler -- all ages but theres a bar area where you have to be 21 to enter mercury lounge -- over 21 with preferably 2 government issue ids bowery ballroom -- depends on show, often over 18, with id underacme --over 21 with 1 or 2 exceptions, i think cbgb's -- over 16, 2 id roseland -- all ages irving plaza -- all ages hammerstein ballroom -- all ages beacon theater -- no clue shine -- over 21 except when the bouncer is a really nice guy after a while like at the murmurs life -- over 21 stupid clubby trendy scene place with leo and his stupid friends and models and then some cool people, sometimes good concerts though fez -- over 18 i think knitting factory -- all ages the roxy -- over 21 umm.. not sure what other venues there are... those are the ones ive been to... fake ids are a wonderful thing.... amanda* the girl whos 16 but her id says she's 19.. another says she's 23... wow she's 31 according to this one.. heh* "just play with my hair and i'll be happy" - the murmurs --------------- MESSAGE wordsandguitar.v001.n323.5 --------------- From: BFMacke@aol.com Subject: Re: Digest wordsandguitar.v001.n313 Date: Tue, 1 Sep 1998 02:54:14 EDT MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I've been away so these replies are a bit dated: Jimmy, agree with you on the Quasi single and the Janet vox song is simply beautiful. Uh, maybe she should be doing more of the vocals... Rachel, thank you for the recommendation on Sarge. After Janice seconded your recommendation, I bought it this weekend and really like it. It's "beguiling". It makes me think of Velocity Girl a bit. I found it in a store but it looks like it would be available at http://www.parasol.com that you mentioned the other day too. I realize I'll get no sympathy from anyone since S-K plays a lot in the NW but I'm envious of you guys going to the midwest shows. It's been over 3 weeks now since I last saw them and I'm going through withdrawal. Do you think they need someone to lug equipment? You guys are in for a treat. And I'll go on record loving both XO and whitechocolatespaceegg. Intel was one thing, those passes were $40 and you NEEDED a pass for certain shows, but I don't think you'd really get $45/night money's worth unless you ran around like a Maniac. I had the show info on Momus but I may have deleted it - write to Magistery@aol.com for that info and it's already been posted here the KRS showcase info. That's also because I'm always up for hanging out in NYC for a weekend and my college paid part of the bill. You should know that some of the clubs have a limit to the number of people with badges that they'll let in, so they can turn you away if they've reached their limit. I know some of the bars are 21+ but I never had too much trouble with that. To see the most bands in one night you kind of have to be flexible about which ones you see and the closer it gets to the end of the night the less chance you have of getting in. If there's a band you really want to see sometimes you have to go earlier and sit through the bands before them. It also depends how popular the bands are and how big the venue is. Hope this helps.
