Separate applications are required for each category.

CQ DX COUNTRY AWARD TIPS

(1) All contacts must be made using a single mode--SSB, CW or RTTY. Separate applications are required for each mode. No CQ DX Country Award is available for MIXED modes.  Each application must be accompanied by the proper fee.  Endorsements are attachments to certificates and are not stand-alones.

(2)
Records are maintained for three years following an applicant's latest update. If it has been over three years since your last update, you will need to resubmit all countries that you are claiming for your total.

(3) If you hold a country award issued by a national organization, a copy of paperwork issued to you by that organization with your credits itemized by country may be acceptable in lieu of having cards checked.

(4) If you have doubt about the status of a DX operation that you have verified, send the card to the Award Manager with a note on the update form. At present, we accept cards from 7O1YGF. Cards from P5RS7 and some other operations are not valid for CQ DX credit.

(5) Always include return postage when sending cards to a checkpoint or to the Award Manager. First Class mail or Priority Mail with package tracking is recommended.  Return postage for 100 cards is around $7 in the United States. Certified mail can be used for a dollar or two more. Registered mail service is available for sending cards internationally with a cost of $20-$30 per 100 cards depending on the destination. A cheaper alternative is international package air mail which costs $10-$20 but may not be available in all cases. See paragraph 28 below for important details about IRCs.

(6) If a CQ Form 1067 (CQ DX Award Application/Update Form) is not handy, you may substitute a likeness or a printed computer document. The document must contain your name, call, address and mode for which your update is being submitted. The call sign and country of each station being submitted for credit must be included.

(7) Cards are not required to be checked when applying for band and special endorsements. Cards must be in an applicants possession but need not be submitted unless specifically requested. We offer band endorsement stickers for verifying 50 countries on 1.8 MHz.; 100 countries on 3.5 and 7 MHz. combined and 100 countries on 28 MHz. Special endorsement stickers are available for Mobile operation, OSCAR (Satellite), SSTV, QRPp (5 watts or less). Each requires 50 countries. An applicant must have a basic CQ DX award (CW, SSB, RTTY) in order to qualify for stickers. The band endorsement or special endorsement must be for the same mode as the basic CQ DX certificate. Stickers are $1 each plus a self-addressed stamped envelope.

(8)The CQ DX RTTY Award includes contacts made using two-way RTTY, PSK-31, Baudot, ASCII, AMTOR and packet.

(9) Please send all CQ DX award applications and updates to N4UF at P.O. Box 9673; Jacksonville, FL 32208. To avoid delays, do not send CQ DX paperwork and/or cards to CQ HQ in New York. Please make checks for awards and endorsement fees payable to B. F. Williams.

(10) Within a few weeks of your application for a new CQ DX Award being received, you will receive a copy of your award authorization form. Please check to make sure that your name, call and address are correct. If not, notify N4UF by e-mail or postal mail.

(11)
As with all CQ DX Awards, please allow three to six months for delivery of your certificate. The original of your award authorization form is sent to the CQ office in New York where your award will be custom-lettered and mailed in a protective tube three to six months after the date of your award authorization form.

(12) To receive the reduced $6 basic CQ DX award fee offered to CQ subscribers, please include a mailing label showing your name and address from one of your recent CQ issues. You may send a photocopy of the label instead of detaching it from your magazine. The rate for non-subscribers is $12.  Acceptable payment options include personal check, money order, US stamps,  cash (accountable mail recommended) or valid IRCs (See paragraph 28 below). Please make check/money order payable to B.F. Williams.

(13) Updates are required at least every 12 months to remain listed on the CQ DX Honor Rolls. An operator may update his or her total(s) at any time with any number of new countries. There is no charge for updates unless endorsement stickers are issued

(14) Updates indicating "no change" are acceptable if no new countries have been confirmed. Such updates may be accomplished by postal mail or e-mail to the Award Manager.  E-mail goes to
n4uf@nofars.org

(15) E-mail updates are not accepted if additional countries are being claimed. Such updates must be submitted by postal mail.

(16) It is recommended that applicants keep a copy of all CQ DX paperwork submitted for future reference.  Update applications containing excessive claims for countries already credited (dupes) will not be processed.  The CQ DX Award Manager will prepare an audit sheet listing countries needed by an applicant for a $3 charge per mode and an SASE.

(17) Updates received by postal mail will be acknowledged with a confirmation of total note if a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) is included. Sufficient return postage must be provided for any cards submitted.

(18) Endorsement stickers for number of countries confirmed are issued for 150,200,250,275,300,310, 320 and 330.  Stickers are $1 each plus SASE or SAE and return postage. The $6/$12 basic award fee does not include endorsement stickers. Verification cards are required for country total endorsements.

(19) In areas where a CQ DX Checkpoint is not convenient, the Award Manager may accept certification of cards by authorized checkers representing national Amateur Radio societies.

(20) Listings of stations on the CQ DX Honor Rolls are posted on this site at the end of every odd-numbered month (Jan, Mar, May, etc.) and are published in CQ six times per year. It normally takes 4 to 5 months for new totals to appear in the printed listings in CQ. Listings are adjacent to the DX column.

(21) Call signs are listed on the CQ DX Honor Rolls in descending order of country total. Call signs of Honor Roll members with 335 countries or more with the same country total are listed based on longevity with that country total. The call sign listed first is the one with the most time with that total.

(22) To help equalize postal mail delivery delays, especially from DX stations, all Honor Roll updates received within each two-month period between listings are considered to have been received simultaneously.

(23) Operators updating to the same country total during each two-month reporting period are ranked in order based upon their standing on the previous CQ DX Honor Roll listing for that mode. Thus, if two operators update to 334, the one with the highest listing on the previous CQ DX Honor Roll will be shown ahead of the other.

(24) The effective dates for valid contacts with new countries and submission of cards for credit are established by the CQ DX Awards Manager. Dates may differ from those used by administrators of other awards. Check this web site for announcements when new countries are added. The Award Manager will allow at least 30 days between the date of his announcement and any Honor Roll revisions that reflect the new maximum count.

(25) When new countries are added to the CQ DX list, the order of call signs shown with the new maximum country count will be determined by the procedures in paragraphs 21 through 24 above.

(26) When an active country is deleted by the CQ DX Award Manager, he adjusts CQ DX Honor Roll totals downward to reflect the deletion. Deleted countries have no value for CQ DX Country Awards regardless of the date of contact.

(27) The fee for a replacement certificate due to damage/loss of the original is $25 for CQ subscribers or $35 for non-subscribers. Please furnish the certificate number or date that the original was issued. No cards need to be submitted.

(28) International Reply Coupons (IRCs) must be properly stamped. The issuing post office must stamp on the left side.  The right side must not be stamped.  Many post offices do not stamp IRCs at all and others stamp the wrong side. These improperly prepared IRCs are not acceptable for CQ DX Awards and will be returned.  $6 US equals 7 properly stamped IRCs and $12 equals 14 IRCs.  Mint US stamps are also acceptable. 45 cents in stamps equals 1/2  IRC and 90 cents in stamps equals 1 IRC.  According to http://www.everything2.com/ IRCs... are quite expensive for their relative value.  We agree.

CQ DX COUNTRY AWARD NEWS

KOSOVA ADDED TO CQ DX AWARDS COUNTRY LIST

(Hicksville, NY) March 21, 2008 -- Kosova (Kosovo) is being added to the list of countries and territories recognized for CQ DX awards, effective immediately, CQ DX Awards Manager Billy Williams, N4UF, announced today.

Verifications for contacts made on or after February 17, 2008 are acceptable for CQ DX Award credit. CQ DX Honor Roll members with 335 or more credits should update by May 31st for highest placement in Honor Roll listings.

The new 339 entity maximum will appear on CQ DX Honor Rolls to be prepared in early June. CQ DX Honor Roll listings prepared in early April will be based on a 338 maximum count.

All Kosova contacts will count for field KN on applications for the CQ DX Field Award.

Kosova's status has been the subject of some controversy in the amateur radio community as well as the world community, as the ARRL declared that special operations from there on February 17 will count as Serbia, not Kosova, in terms of DXCC credit. The United States and many European countries immediately recognized Kosova's independence. However, Russia and China are opposed to it and Russia has threatened to veto any U.N. action to recognize Kosova as an independent nation.

"We are aware that the ARRL has not yet added Kosova to the DXCC list," explained CQ magazine Editor Rich Moseson, W2VU. "The League says it is waiting for Kosova to become a member state of the United Nations or be issued a callsign block by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), a U.N. agency. However, because of geopolitical issues far beyond the realm of amateur radio, it is unlikely that the United Nations or the ITU will act on Kosova in the near future, even though the United States and many other countries have granted it recognition."

"Because it is CQ's policy to grant credit for contacts with 'new' entities as of the date that their status changes," Moseson continued, "we have decided not to wait for U.N. action, but to follow the lead of the United States and other countries that have recognized Kosova's independence, and to grant credit for contacts made with stations in Kosova as of its independence day, February 17, 2008."

Verifications must indicate that the station is located in Kosovo/Kosova to be valid for CQ DX Country Award credit. Not all stations with YU8 prefixes are in Kosova.

A map and list of towns in Kosova is available via http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_in_Kosovo

330 COUNTRY STICKER NOW AVAILABLE

CQ now has a 330 country sticker available for those who have reached that count.  Cost is $1 plus SASE.  Stickers may be requested from the Award Manager.  Send requests to Billy Williams, N4UF; P.O. Box 9673; Jacksonville, FL 32208-0673.
