Final Counts Are In for the BCY 2007 Summer Mission Trip!  This will be June 17-24, 2007, in Fayetteville, NC!  We have a total commitment from 6 youth (Jenea, Savannah, Victoria, Blair and Dale and Wayne) and two adults (Joann and Pastor Karen).  Carolyn will be coming up Thursday night to share two days with the group.

We are planning to leave Sunday, June 17th after church and return late Sunday afternoon, June 24th.

The remaining $50 per person is due by May 27th at our youth meeting (6 pm) in the BCY room.  It is imperative that we get your remaining money for the trip by this date.  This has to be sent to Fayetteville before June 1st!

If you are unable to attend the May 27th meeting, this coming Sunday, please follow-up via phone with Carolyn/Pastor Karen and coordinate getting your final payment in to us.

At the May 27th meeting, we will be discussing the mission trip along with the packing list.  We will get your questions and make contacts to get answers for you!

Our last mission trip meeting will be on Saturday, June 16th at 6:00 pm - at the church.  This meeting will give the final details before we leave on Sunday, the 17th.

We encourage you to attend both the May 29th and June 16th meetings.

This will be the "experience" of your life and those you serve!  This is life-changing!

Dinner and Movie - Sunday, 4/1/2007  12:30PM

We met at the right after services to enjoy dinner and a movie together.  This was a dutch-treat (pay you own way) this time.

Kenny and Keli Lucas graciously agreed to go along and share their time with us :)  We appreciate them offering their time and enjoying fellowship with us.

Dinner was at Rush's in Lexington and then we went to Virginia Hylton Park in Lexington until the movie started.  We went to Pastime Pavilion and saw Wild Hogs (PG-13) - at 2:30 pm.

We had a wonderful time and got back to the church around 4:45 pm.

Permission slip document were collected and will be kept on file for events at Bethany and any local trips - emergency contact phone info for parents.

BCY First Organizational Meeting - 3/25/2007 6 pm

Bethany Church youth met for the first time on Sunday. After sharing fellowship, pizza and "other" goodies with the WELCA and Bethany Men, we met to reflect and share prayer at the baptismal font in the sanctuary.

Lord, you have brought us together at a place which represents beginning.

Be with us as we begin the start up of an active youth group at Bethany.

Help us grow in faith!
Let us Hear Your Voice - What You want Us to Do!
In Service to You!
Continue to teach us that You are There with us in our ministry!
In your name, we pray. Amen

We went through a couple of points from Sunday School earlier in the day - how important it is to serve through Hearing His Voice! His Direction for Us! We come to Serve!

Through the use of poster paper and washable paint, we stamped our handprint into the poster paper with the words "Hear His Voice! In Service to Him!" After each youth stamped, their hands were washed by another youth member.

Youth then brainstormed the purpose of their youth ministry in the development of a mission statement. Why were they called? What were their expectations of the group? What did they want to accomplish? What brought them all together as a group? This was the final agreed mission statement:

Bethany Church Youth Mission Statement:

United in faith,
we come together to study the way of the Lord,
have fun/fellowship and make new friends!

In looking at their youth group participation surveys, the youth then discussed and brainstormed times/places to meet as well as activities that they were interested in participating. These included: Frankie's Fun Park, Bowling, Meeting at Someone's House instead of Church at times, Ice Skating, Service through Helping Do Work/Other at Church Member's House, Distribute Bethany Information to Neighborhoods as was done in the Past, Softball, Volleyball and definitely a mission service trip.

In looking at the calendar with Spring Break, Easter and advisor away for vacation, it was decided that we'd try and get together on Sunday, April 1st right after church for dinner together and a movie.

We talked about opportunity for fundraising in working with parking area for South Congaree rodeo - weekend of April 14th. We agreed that we would be agreeable to help in it was a joint venture with the men/women at Bethany.

Another date that was tentatively set was getting together on Saturday, April 28th. Youth noted that they would like to start "putting together" the BCY Room by taking down shelving, washing walls and other things. We'll check on this with appropriate church adults and see what we're able to set in motion for this day.

With expressed interest in a summer service mission trip this year, the youth discussed projects sponsored/coordinated through Home Works of America, Inc. based in Irmo, SC. Home Works is "an ecumenical faith-based organization which welcomes all to join in fellowship and service. These are repair type projects for those in need. It was decided that June looked like a good month with more checking into schedules. Three choices of dates/places included: (1) June 17-24 Fayetteville, NC; (2) June 10-17 Columbia, SC; and, (3) June 3-10 Valle Crucis, NC. We noted that we'd check scheduling conflicts and decide on a date/place from that. It was noted if trip was one in Columbia, that the youth would like to stay nights together as a group and not return home each day - believing that they'd get more out of the projects this way. NOTE: Pastor Karen has checked dates and it looks like the June 17-24 mission trip to Fayetteville will be the one which we will participate.

The first night ended with the point that we started: Hear His Voice! In Service to Him! And t-shirts given to those attending. We then joined in prayer at the end of our night together:

Lord, we are listening to Your Voice!
May all our work be good as we seek to do your will.
Show Us How to Serve You Best!
Amen.
