DEER RUN HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION

MEETING MINUTES

October 9, 2005

The meeting was held outside at the end of the cul-de-sac on N.W. 62nd Court.

DEER RUN HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION BUSINESS

JoAnn Stevener, President of the Association asked the homeowners present to introduce themselves.

It was announced that the current Secretary of the Association, Annie Maloney had submitted her resignation and was unable to attend the meeting.  JoAnn asked if there were any homeowners present who would be interested in serving as Secretary.  No one volunteered, so Denise Bastanzi, a past Secretary of the Association, offered to take the minutes of the meeting.

JoAnn advised that the Deer Run Homeowners Association now had a web site, which was created by Malcom Sanford.  The web site address is www.deer-run.vze.com.   Malcolm and JoAnn discussed the current information on the web site.  Other information we might want to put on the web site was also discussed.  It was recommended that the vacant Secretary's position on the Board of Directors be posted on the web site in order to solicit volunteers to fill the position.

Pat Doorbar, Treasurer of the Association, gave a status report on the Association's finances.  At the last meeting on July 29, 2004, there was $1,974.01 in the bank.  Since the last meeting, $400 in Association fees were received and $656.22 in expenses have been paid out.  The current balance is $1,717.79.  Pat reviewed the various types of expenses and their related costs.  A written report was given for the official records.  Pat advised that the Association is charged a $5.00 fee if the account gets below $2,000.    Many of the homeowners present suggested Pat check with some of the local Credit Unions to see if we can get free checking.   Pat will look into this and report back to the Board.  After a discussion about the collection of Association dues, it was determined that the use of flyers taken door to door seemed to be the best way to get homeowners to pay their dues.

CURRENT DEER RUN ISSUES

Maintenance of Front Entrance and Common Areas

Everyone present acknowledged how grateful they were of the lady who has been        keeping up the front entrance by weeding and planting new plants. Unfortunately, no one knows who she is.  The Board will make every attempt to reach her and thank her.   The homowners also want to thank the gentleman who has been cutting the grass out front.  There was some discussion about getting a lawn service. There was discussion about asking Deer Run homeowners if anyone is interested in getting paid to maintain the front entrance.   Donna and Ed Hopwood will ask their teenage son if he is interested.   They will provide the Board with his cost to maintain the front area.  The Board will solicite others via the Deer Run web site, to see who else may be interested and get quotes from them.

JoAnn reminded everyone that the grass along the common areas in front of the retention ponds was being cut by the homeonwners living next to them.

Rotten Utility Cover On N.W. 52 Terrace

JoAnn mentioned how unsightly the box was that was covering some pipes near the front entrance on N.W. 52nd Terrace.  No one was sure exactly what was under the box.  There was some discussion about tearing it down and rebuilding a new box or planting flowers or bushes around it.  The homeowners recommended that JoAnn call GRU and ask what the pipes were for first.

Solicitation In The Neighborhood

JoAnn read a complaint sent in from a homeowner about solicitors in the neighborhood.  There was some discussion about possibly putting up "No Solicitation" signs.  It was pointed out that the signs can't legally keep people out.  There was a general consensus that there really wasn't a big problem with solicitors.

Reduced Hours Of Operation Of The  Devils Millhopper Geological Site Park

One homeowner recommended that the Deer Run Board of Directors write a letter to the State complaining about the reduced number of days the Devils Millhopper Park is open.  The State now closes the park two days a week.

FUTURE ISSUES IMPACTING DEER RUN NEIGHBORHOOD

Extension Of The Alachua County Greenway/Bike Path

Bill Pine advised that he heard that the County plans to expand the greenway/bike path, which will connect from the San Felasco Park, go through the Deer Run neighborhood and out through Blues Creek, and eventually connect to the current path in Alachua.  Bill advised that the land is currently being surveyed and plans are underway to relocate current fencing to accommodate this path.  Bill said he will continue to follow this project and keep the Board of Directors informed.  The homeowners present all agreed this sounded like a good project, but that we needed to remain informed.

Road Connecting N.W. 39th Avenue and N.W. 53rd Avenue (Millhopper Road)

One homeowner mentioned that she heard the County might be putting a road in connecting N.W. 39th Avenue and Millhopper Road, which would come right next to the church across from the Deer Run front entrance.  Some homeowners heard that this project was cancelled and that the County was looking at making the connecting road further west on Millhopper Road.

Re-opening of the Road Between Deer Run and Blues Creek Neighborhood

One homeowner advised that the Board be on the lookout for possible discussions about re-opening the road between Deer Run and Blues Creek.  With continued construction of new homes in Blues Creek, she wanted the Board of Directors to keep a watch for any possible discussions about the re-opening of this road.

DEER RUN BLOCK PARTY

JoAnn asked if anyone would be interested in having a neighborhood party.  There was interest and it was recommended that we hold it at the San Felasco Park, next to the sub-division.  It will be called a "block party" and it will be held on Sunday, November 13th from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Denise Bastanzi will ask the County if we have to reserve the pavillions, or if it is on a first come, first serve basis.  JoAnn will look into getting a large sign designed to place on the pavillion, so other citizens will know that it is a private party.

We will ask everyone to bring food to share.  The Homeowners Association will pay for paper supplies, hotdogs and hamburgers, and drinks.    It was suggested that we invite someone from the Alachua County Sheriff's office to talk to us about becoming a crime watch neighborhood.  JoAnn will look into this as well.

A flyer will be distributed announcing the block party and it will be placed on the Deer Run web site.
