Looking for historically significant buildings, landmarked or not?  The City of Redondo Beach has approximately 3,000 pre-1950 buildings.  To date Redondo Beach has conducted two surveys in the development of our historical resources list.  Please contact the Redondo Beach City Planning Department if you would like to determine if a particular building is listed on one of our Historic Resources Surveys.
Historic Resources Rankings/ Ratings

The rating system used in both the 1986 and 1996 Redondo Beach Surveys uses rankings of "A", "B", "C", and "D", with "A" being the most significant.  Lists of "A" Rated and "B" Rated Redondo Beach structures are now available online.
"A", "B", "C" and "D" structures can also be found in the printed Surveys noted below.
1986 Historic Resources Survey
s86.jpg (25654 bytes) This survey includes the City's original townsite and adjacent areas to the south.  Included are structures, sites and artifacts related to the Redondo's history from the origins of the community to and including 1946.

The survey resulted in the identification of approximately 1,400 buildings pre-dating 1946 and with the original townsite, the Clifton-by-the-Sea area, and Clifton Heights area.

1996 Historic Resources Survey
Redondo 1996 Survey This survey was designed to supplement the 1986 investigations and provide the City of Redondo Beach with data complementing the date presenting earlier.  Areas north of 190th Street/ Anita Avenue (North Redondo), areas located east of the 1986 study, and some isolated areas location the southern portion of the City are included.

Not including addresses identified in the 1986 Survey, the 1996 Survey team found 1565 addresses to be located within the City and pre-dating 1950.

The greater majority of historic resources in the North Redondo area are of late historic design (1940s) and representative of the relatively early developments of the pre-1940 periods.  There is a sparse scatter of structures dating between 1903 and 1920.
