Incorporated April 29th, 1892, the City of Redondo Beach is the ninth city officially established in Los Angeles County.   Its rich history includes Native American sites, an ambitious working seaport that rivaled the best in Southern California, numerous recreational facilities, and oceanfront residences.  Redondo Beach is also the oldest South Bay city, the southern portion of the Santa Monica Bay coastal area.

By encouraging the protection of historically significant landmarks, our community heritage is preserved.  To promote this goal, the City of Redondo Beach Preservation Program commenced in 1989 with the adoption of Preservation Ordinance No. 2554.  The Ordinance established the Preservation Commission, with responsibilities including the maintenance of a register of individual and historic districts within the City.  Redondo's Preservation Commission is recognized by the State of California as a Certified Local Government (CLG).  Meetings are broadcast live on Adelphia Channel 8 to Redondo cable subscribers, the first Wednesday of each month.  Please view our latest Agenda and previous Meeting Minutes.  
This Program also fosters civic and neighborhood identity, enhances visual characteristics of the City, strengthens the economy by stabilizing and improving property values, promotes the environment and use of historic resources, conserves valuable material and energy resources, and reasonably protects the property rights of landmark owners.
Redondo Historical Museum At this site you can view information about and photographs of Redondo Beach's Historical Districts, including our Local, State, and National Historic Landmarks.  Also learn about Heritage Court located in Dominguez Park, home to the Redondo Beach Historical Museum and Morrell House.
